Run Run Run
The Velvet Undeground And Nico Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a land where the cold meets the sun and dies
Turning on a dime
Heard a call from a man in maze and he said i wanna go
Lend me ear help me understand how can i be free from the pain
See i been making all the same mistakes
I hope that i can find my way
Does everybody feel alone
Once upon a time
In a land where the cold meets the sun and dies
She would pull my mind
pull me back in a fear
When she said that I'm lost I'm going home
She spent her time wasting all the light
That made her shine out from the stars
With everyday bleeding into night
it's hard to find who you are
Am i the only one who gets down
Am i the only one i know
Is it a plague pushing this town
Does everybody feel alone
The lyrics of "Run Run Run" by The Velvet Underground and Nico describe a journey of self-discovery and the search for freedom from pain and loneliness. The song sets the scene in a place where the cold meets the sun, where the singer hears a call from a man in a maze who wants to go and asks for help to be free from the pain. The lyrics capture the longing for something more and the need to break free from the confines of one's own mind.
The chorus of the song features a question that resonates throughout the lyrics: "Am I the only one who gets down? Does everybody feel alone?" This speaks to the universal experience of feeling isolated or disconnected from others, even in a crowded city or bustling town. The song suggests that perhaps these deep feelings of loneliness and alienation are inherent in the human experience, and that everyone feels them to some extent.
The second verse describes a woman who "spent her time wasting all the light that made her shine out from the stars." This is a metaphor for someone who is not living up to their full potential or who is weighed down by their own insecurities and fears. The lyrics suggest that it is difficult to find oneself in a world that is constantly changing and that it takes courage to break free from one's own limitations and fears.

Teenage Mary said to Uncle Dave
I sold my soul, must be saved
Gonna take a walk down to Union Square
You never know who you're gonna find there
You gotta run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do
Marguerita Passion had to get her fix
She wasn't well, she was getting sick
Went to sell her soul, she wasn't high
Didn't know, thinks she could buy it
And she would run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do
Seasick Sarah had a golden nose
Hobnail boots wrapped around her toes
When she turned blue, all the angels screamed
They didn't know, they couldn't make the scene
She had to run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do
Beardless Harry, what a waste
Couldn't even get a small town taste
Rode the trolleys down to forty seven
Figured he was good to get himself to heaven
'Cause he had to run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do

@jimrader5299
lou refers here to rockers such as this one. many of his ballads were quite 'jazzy'. i saw the feelies cover 'run' live at this awful club, the peppermint lounge. they shld've recorded their version, it was pretty interesting.

What are you on about my friend?
@seanoshea-jx6wb

@curlytoes22
you know it's a Lou Reed song if every verse is a short story about a different person
@harrycoyle4529
Dylan did it first. He ran on the same streets too but managed to avoid becoming a junkie.
@eccoakadicco
@@harrycoyle4529 If Dylan was a junkie, I'd bet his music would be less lame and more palatable.
