Faded
The Veronicas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Faded, faded
So far away as I disappear in the dark)

You never take, take the time to really look
Look at the one, the one I really am
You try to fit, to fit me in a perfect box
You let me slip between the cracks
Now I'm faded, into someone else
Baby someone I don't wanna be
Yeah, I'm faded my true colors' gone
Like a picture nobody sees

I bet you don't, don't even know my favorite song
You tell me how, how I should wear my hair
You wanna change everything I ever was
Wana erase me 'til I'm not there

Now I'm faded, into someone else
Baby, someone I don't wanna be
Yeah, I'm faded, my trye colors' gone
Like a picture nobody sees
Now I'm faded, like I never was
'Til I don't even know myself
Yeah, I'm faded, into what you want
But I'm not taking it too well

I don't wanna be you're little picture perfect pretty girl
Who's got nothing to say
And I don't wanna wait around for you to run my whole life down
And let you watch me fade away

You try to fit, to fit me in your perfect box
You let me slip between the cracks

Now I'm faded, into someone else
Baby, someone I don't wanna be
Yeah, I'm faded, my true colors' gone
Like a picture nobody sees
Now I'm faded, like I never was
'Til I don't even know myself
Yeah, I'm faded, into what you want
But I'm not taking it too well

(Faded, faded
I'm slipping away as I disappear in the dark
Yeah, I'm faded, faded
I'm so far away from who I was at the start
Yeah, I'm faded, faded
I'm slipping away as I disappear in the dark

Yeah, I'm faded, faded
I'm so far away from who I was at the start)

Overall Meaning

The song "Faded" by The Veronicas is a powerful anthem about losing oneself in someone else's expectations. The opening lines set a somber mood, as the singer feels themselves disappearing into the darkness. The first verse talks about how the person they're with doesn't truly see them for who they are, instead trying to mould them into a perfect box. The second verse expands on this theme, with the singer feeling like they're being erased and nobody knows their true self anymore. The chorus repeats the word "faded" as if to emphasize the feeling of being lost and forgotten.

The bridge of the song is a powerful call to action, with the singer declaring that they don't want to be someone's perfect, pretty girl who has nothing to say. They refuse to simply wait around for someone else to take control of their life and watch them slowly fade away. The final chorus leaves the listener with a sense of bittersweetness, as the singer acknowledges that they've become something else entirely but still harbor resentment toward the person who caused it.

Overall, "Faded" is a moving and deeply introspective track about the danger of losing oneself in the pursuit of pleasing others. The Veronicas make their message clear through their powerful lyrics and emotive vocals.

This is a good lesson for anybody in a relationship. Accept your loved ones for who they are and ask the same in return. Nobody should've to change to keep someone's love. trying to improve yourself because you want to is different though.
