Contrary to popular belief, the band name in fact did not come from a character in Archie Comics. In an interview with MTV, the sisters explicitly stated this about the band name:
"The name is something we thought about for a long time, and we wanted it to be a girl's name, but we didn't want it to be 'the Jesses. We were very conscious of not wanting to make it a twin thing, because we think that's really tacky. So one day we saw the movie 'Heathers,' and there's a line where one girl asks, 'Are you a Heather?' and Winona Ryder's character answers, 'No, I'm a Veronica,' and so we went with that, because she was this kind of cool, unique chick with an attitude."
Born to Italian (Sicilian) parents on Christmas Day 1984, they grew up in Albany Creek, (northwest of Brisbane, Australia) where they attended Ferny Grove State High School and Wavell State High School. At an early age the girls expressed interest in performing; they participated with small local papers in shows on television, radio and horses.
The girls were picked up by Warner Bros. Records/Reprise Records' Sire Records label in 2004, for a reported sum of 2 million dollars. The girls write their own songs, and have also written songs for other artists like t.A.T.u.'s "All About Us" and Australian Idol winners Casey Donovan's "What's Going On" & Kate DeAraugo's "Faded".
The Veronicas dislike being called a female duo. "We like being called a band or group. We don't want to be a pop duo group with two girls singing about relationships, we have everything that a rock band would have, so we are a band," says Lisa. The rest of the band consists of:
Jungle George - Guitar
Sherman - Bass
Vik Foxx - Drums
The Veronicas debut album, entitled "The Secret Life of...", was released in Australia on October 17, 2005, entering the ARIA Album charts at the position of #7. Since then, it has peaked at #2 and gone 4x Platinum. Due to the success of the album, five singles have been released in Australia.
The band's lead single "Hook Me Up" from their second album was added to Australian radio on August 27, 2007. "Hook Me Up" was produced by Greg Wells (Timbaland, Mika, OneRepublic). The Veronicas' second album, also titled "Hook Me Up", was released on November 3, 2007, containing 12 tracks. The album in its entirety was leaked on the internet 8 days before its initial release. "Untouched" is the second single off the album, and was made available in stores and online on December 8, 2007.
The two took a brief break from making music together, though they reunited in 2010 to begin working on their third album. Due to major differences with their label, they hired a lawyer to get out of their contractual obligations and were successful, thus briefly becoming an independent act before being signed to Sony Music in 2014.
The first single from their third, self-titled album The Veronicas, "You Ruin Me", debuted atop the ARIA Singles Chart, becoming their first number-one hit in the country since "Hook Me Up" in 2007, and was certified double platinum.
Lisa has previously dated singer Ryan Cabrera and was formerly engaged to former Australian Idol contestant Dean Geyer. Since 2014 she is in a relationship with American actor Logan Huffman. They got engaged late 2016.
Jess was in a relationship with DJ, TV host and recording artist Ruby Rose in 2008. She dated Smashing Pumpkins singer and songwriter Billy Corgan from 2010 to 2012, and Badflower guitarist Josh Katz from 2014 to 2016. Since late 2016 she and Ruby Rose have confirmed they are once more in a relationship.

Leave Me Alone
The Veronicas Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Dragging me down
Making a sound because you wanna
I guess that's why I like messing with you
Putting you through
A lesson or two, because I'm gonna
Before I go my own way
I just gotta say
Leave me alone
Get out of my face
I'm tired and low
Feeling so misplaced
Time for you to go
You still know I'm better off on my own, oh
Leave me alone
This isn't gonna work
Don't call me on the phone
Because I'm all out of words
I'll face the unknown
Thinking about all the ways that I've grown
Oh, Leave me alone
There was the time I thought you were the one
Having some fun
Getting it done
What an illusion
'Cause you were trying to take control of me
That couldn't be, I need to be free of this confusion
Don't give me a guilt trip, because I'm so over it
Leave me alone
Get out of my face
I'm tired and low
Feeling so misplaced
Time for you to go
You still know I'm better off on my own, oh
Leave me alone
This isn't gonna work
Don't call me on the phone
Because I'm all out of words
I'll face the unknown
Thinking about all the ways that I've grown
Oh, leave me alone
Don't turn around and don't look back
I see right through all your selfless acts
Oh
Leave me alone
Get out of my face
I'm tired and low
Feeling so misplaced
Time for you to go
You still know I'm better off on my own, oh
Leave me alone
This isn't gonna work
Don't call me on the phone
Because I'm all out of words
I'll face the unknown
Thinking about all the ways that I've grown
Oh, leave me alone
If you win your love
I'll feel better on my own
Leave me alone
The Veronicas's Leave Me Alone is a song that explores themes of control, independence, and self-empowerment. The lyrics describe someone who has been pushed around and dragged down by a controlling partner, but who is now ready to break free and go their own way. The singer expresses their exhaustion and frustration with the relationship, stating that they are "tired and low" and feeling "misplaced". They plead with their partner to leave them alone, emphasizing that they are better off on their own. The chorus is repeated throughout the song, hammering home the message of independence and strength.
The song's verses describe the singer's realization that their partner was never really there for them, but was instead trying to control them. The singer reflects on how they were once fooled by their partner, thinking they were "the one" and having "some fun, getting it done." But now they see the truth, and they feel like they have outgrown the relationship. They tell their partner not to turn around and not to look back, showing their determination to leave the relationship behind.
Overall, Leave Me Alone is a powerful anthem for anyone who has ever felt trapped or controlled in a relationship. It encourages listeners to stand up for themselves and break free from toxic dynamics, reminding them that they are better off on their own.
