Beginning with a psychedelic sound indebted to space rock and shoegazer music, by the mid-1990s the band had released several EPs and two acclaimed records. They also endured name and lineup changes, breakups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. The band's commercial breakthrough was Urban Hymns and its single Bitter Sweet Symphony, which became a massive worldwide hit.
Soon after this commercial peak, the band quit amid creative struggles within, and Ashcroft went onto a successful solo career. Tong briefly joined Blur as a replacement for Graham Coxon. It is rumored that Simon Jones did a studio album with Ari Pap of the Floor Monks called 'Aint Nothing To It' and was never released because they both had bigger projects going on at the time. Close family and friends assure us its a fabulous indie/rock/alternate album and they really wish it would have been released.
The Verve were chosen to close the 2008 Glastonbury festival which they did with a set based on the classic 1997 album 'Urban Hymns'.

Endless Life
The Verve Lyrics

Nights like these I only read about
Nights like these I only dreamt about
As we turned
As we rolled
I felt something strange
I felt you
Something light
I think it was the way of things
I think it was the way of things
Back come back again
Get me a life
Get me a life and see it in everything
Through the dim light
Through those dim lights
I've fallen I'm falling falling falling falling
In the endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
Endless life
The lyrics of The Verve's song "Endless Life" depict a deeply introspective and, perhaps, a spiritual experience. The song begins with the singer seeking solace from some sort of pain, urging to "Drink the water to ease my pain." In the following lines, he acknowledges that the kind of "nights" that he is going through were once only "read about" or "dreamt about." The singer then describes a physical movement - "As we turned, As we rolled" - which created a peculiar sensation within him. He felt an intangible connection with his surroundings, something that was "light" and "bright" and could be a "way of things." At this point, the singer expresses his yearning to "Get me a life and see it in everything," before surrendering himself to the overwhelming feeling of "falling" in the "endless life."
The song Endless Life, essentially, talks about the yearning to connect with something that goes beyond our earthly experiences. It portrays an intense desire for a higher meaning, something that gives us purpose and direction. The phrase "endless life" can be seen as a metaphor for immortality, foreverness, or infinity. The singer is trying to find meaning in this never-ending existence, and in the process, he discovers a deep emotional resonance with his surrounding reality.
