One Day
The Verve Lyrics
One day maybe we will dance again
Under fiery skies
One day maybe you will love again
Love that never dies
One day maybe you will see the land
Touch skin with sand
You've been swimming in the lonely sea
With no company
Can't you hear this beauty in life?
The roads, the highs, breaking up your life
Can't you hear this beauty in life?
One day maybe you will cry again
Just like a child
You've gotta tie yourself to the mast my friend
And the storm will end
Oh, don't you want to find?
Can't you hear this beauty in life?
The times, the highs, breaking up your mind
Can't you hear this beauty in life?
Oh, you're too afraid to touch
Too afraid you'll like it too much
The roads, the times, breaking up your mind
Can't you hear this beauty in life?
One day maybe I will dance again
One day maybe I will love again
One day maybe we will dance again
You know you've gotta
Tie yourself to the mast my friend
And the storm will end
One day maybe you will love again
You've gotta tie yourself to the mast my friend
And the storm will end

The band was formed in 1989 at Winstanley College, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England, by vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. Simon Tong later became a member. The band originally split in 1995, but reunited in 1996 to great commercial success. They split once more in April 1999. The band reunited once more in June of 2007, but this reunion was short lived, despite the release of the album Forth in 2008, and the band split again in August 2009.
Beginning with a psychedelic sound indebted to space rock and shoegazer music, by the mid-1990s the band had released several EPs and two acclaimed records. They also endured name and lineup changes, breakups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. The band's commercial breakthrough was Urban Hymns and its single Bitter Sweet Symphony, which became a massive worldwide hit.
Soon after this commercial peak, the band quit amid creative struggles within, and Ashcroft went onto a successful solo career. Tong briefly joined Blur as a replacement for Graham Coxon. It is rumored that Simon Jones did a studio album with Ari Pap of the Floor Monks called 'Aint Nothing To It' and was never released because they both had bigger projects going on at the time. Close family and friends assure us its a fabulous indie/rock/alternate album and they really wish it would have been released.
The Verve were chosen to close the 2008 Glastonbury festival which they did with a set based on the classic 1997 album 'Urban Hymns'.

One day maybe we will dance again
Under fiery skies
One day maybe you will love again
Love that never dies
Huh-uh, ah…
One day maybe you will see the land
Touch skin with sand
You've been swimming in the lonely sea
With no company
Oh-oh, don't you wanna find?
Can't you hear there’s beauty in life?
The roads, the highs, breaking up your mind
Can't you hear there’s beauty in life?
One day maybe you will cry again
Just like a child
You’ve gotta tie yourself to the mast, my friend
And the storm will end
Oh-oh, don’t you wanna find?
Can't you hear there’s beauty in life?
The times, the highs, breaking up your mind
Can't you hear there’s beauty in life?
Oh-oh, you're too afraid to touch
Too afraid you'll like it too much

One day maybe I will dance again
(One day) One day maybe I will love again (one way)
One day maybe we will dance again, my…
(You know you've gotta)
(Tie yourself to the mast my friends)
One day maybe we will love again, my…
(And the storm will end, yeah, yeah, yeah)
One day maybe we will love again, my…
(Tie yourself to the mast my friends)
(And the storm will end, no, no, no, body you can)
One day maybe we will love again, my…
(Tie yourself to the mast my friend)
(And the storm will end)
Make it easy on you
Tie yourself to the mast my friend
And the storm will end

I've listened to this a million times, and tonight, the tears flowed. I'm coming out of a dark period of my life, and One Day was the most joyous thing ever. Man, I love music that hits you like this.
