Beginning with a psychedelic sound indebted to space rock and shoegazer music, by the mid-1990s the band had released several EPs and two acclaimed records. They also endured name and lineup changes, breakups, health problems, drug abuse and various lawsuits. The band's commercial breakthrough was Urban Hymns and its single Bitter Sweet Symphony, which became a massive worldwide hit.
Soon after this commercial peak, the band quit amid creative struggles within, and Ashcroft went onto a successful solo career. Tong briefly joined Blur as a replacement for Graham Coxon. It is rumored that Simon Jones did a studio album with Ari Pap of the Floor Monks called 'Aint Nothing To It' and was never released because they both had bigger projects going on at the time. Close family and friends assure us its a fabulous indie/rock/alternate album and they really wish it would have been released.
The Verve were chosen to close the 2008 Glastonbury festival which they did with a set based on the classic 1997 album 'Urban Hymns'.

The Verve's song 'This Could Be My Moment' is about a man who believes he is the only man who ever thought he had qualified for the love of the woman he loves. Though he is confident that she cares for him too, he expresses his frustrations about her hesitations whenever he brings up the topic of taking things further. He insists that this could be the perfect moment for them to give things a try and that they should not let the fear of the unknown hold them back. He offers to open up his mind to her and let her in, saying that there is nothing that she couldn't beg, steal, or have.
As the song progresses, he becomes more passionate, urging her to wipe away the tears from her eyes and take this chance with him. He believes that this could be his last chance and that there will be no better night or day to seize the opportunity. The lyrics are an emotional call to action, asking the woman to give him a chance, take a risk, and try to build something special together.
One interesting fact about the song is that it is not included in any of The Verve's studio albums but rather their 1998 B-sides compilation album, 'No Come Down.' Additionally, the song is not written solely by The Verve's lead singer, Richard Ashcroft, but rather co-written by him and guitarist Nick McCabe. The song was recorded by the band in 1996 during the sessions for their iconic album, 'Urban Hymns,' as one of the outtakes. It was not until 1998, however, that 'This Could Be My Moment' first appeared officially.
Other interesting facts include that the song was covered by fellow British band Embrace as a B-side to their single, 'Save Me,' in 2005. The Verve reunited briefly in 2007, but 'This Could Be My Moment' was not included in their tour setlist.
