In 1967, after moving to the UK, he was invited to join the Bee Gees. He was the lead guitarist on their first three albums; Bee Gees' 1st, Horizontal, and Idea. Before you go away
You did me dirty
But you'll get yours one day
You better (watch your step)
Talking about you (watch your step)
You better (watch your step)
Keep your eyes open wide
'Cause you'll be hurting down inside
(Watch your step)
(Watch your step)
You better leave me all your money
Before you go away
Don't think I'm funny, honey
But all I've gotta say
You better (watch your step)
Whoa, oh (watch your step)
(Watch your step)
(Watch your step)
'Cause when you
Took your love from me
You left me full of misery
(Watch your step) hey, hey
(Watch your step)
I'm gonna miss your loving every night
When I get myself together
I'm gonna be all right now
Yeah, yeah
(Watch your step)
(Watch your step)
(Watch your step)
(Watch your step)
Need me by your side
I'm gonna say
Go somewhere and hide
(Watch your step) hey, hey
(Watch your step)
You better watch out, baby
(Watch your step)
Everything you do
(Watch your step)
I'm gonna keep my eyes focused
(Watch your step)
Right on you
(Watch your step)
You're gonna look out, honey
(Watch your step)
Eerywhere you go
(Watch your step)...
The Vince Maloney Sect's song "Watch Your Step" appears to be a warning to a former lover who has wronged the singer in some way. The song conveys a sense of bitterness and betrayal, with the singer urging their ex-lover to be careful and warning them that they will "get theirs" one day. The lyrics also suggest that the ex-lover may have taken money from the singer, and that they will be left "full of misery" now that their relationship is over. Despite the pain of the break-up, however, the singer seems determined to move on and find happiness again in the future.
The song's use of repetition, particularly in the chorus, emphasizes the warning being issued to the ex-lover. The repetition of the phrase "watch your step" creates a sense of urgency and danger, as though the ex-lover is in peril if they don't heed the warning. The use of contrast between the verses and the chorus also adds to the song's overall impact: the verses are slower and more melancholy, while the chorus is upbeat and insistent.
Overall, "Watch Your Step" is a fairly straightforward warning to an ex-lover who has wronged the singer. While the song doesn't go into detail about what exactly the ex-lover did to cause the break-up, it's clear that their actions were hurtful and have left the singer feeling bitter and betrayed.
