They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

The Vines Lyrics

Left by the side of the railway
Day goes by into the night
I was thinkin'
And my love is true
And my love is right
And my love is true
Oh well
Hear the sound
Over the trees
There's a river
I don't know where to begin
Or to end it
And my love is true
And my love is right
And my love is true
True as the night
Oh well
I stand alone
Inside me
The things ya told
Deny me
Yeah we are the heart
Yeah we are the soul
I stand alone
Inside me
The things ya told
Deny me
Yeah we are the heart
Yeah we are the soul
The Vines's song True as the Night is a reflective and introspective track that deals with feelings of loneliness and isolation. The lyrics describe a person who's been abandoned and left to fend for themselves by the side of a railway track. The day turns into night, and they are left alone with their thoughts. The chorus provides a glimmer of hope, as the person reassures themselves that their love is true and right - a sentiment that is as unchanging and constant as the darkness of the night.
In the second verse, the person hears a sound over the trees, and the lyrics take a turn into the unknown. There's a river, but the person doesn't know where it begins or ends. This could be a metaphor for the uncertain and unpredictable nature of life. The chorus repeats, and the song ends with the person standing alone, reflecting on the things they've been told and how it has affected them. Despite this, they are reminded that they are the heart and soul - a powerful affirmation of their strength and resilience.
Overall, the lyrics to True as the Night explore themes of isolation, uncertainty, and self-reflection. Despite the challenges one may face, the song reminds us that our love can remain constant and true, and we have the power to overcome even the toughest of circumstances.
