They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

The Vines Lyrics

I've already seen the other side
It's all I know and nothin' now can do me right, I pray
Lonely as the days I knew, babe
Tired of feelin' strange and blue
Phone me in the morning
I'll be gone and living far away
Lonely as the days I knew, babe
Would I be O.K round you?
Sha, la, la, la
Tell me what you know and I will see if it rings truth
My mind is overflowin'
I believe that we all meet again
The Vines's song Truth tackles themes of loneliness and isolation, as well as the fear of change and the unknown. The opening lines, "Tell me where you're goin'/I've already seen the other side/It's all I know and nothin' now can do me right, I pray," suggest a sense of resignation to one's circumstances, and a fear of venturing into new or unfamiliar territory. The repetition of the phrase "Lonely as the days I knew, babe" further emphasizes the singer's feelings of isolation and disconnect from others.
The middle of the song delivers a sense of detachment or even nihilism, with the lines "Count on me to let you down without a word or warning/I'll be gone and living far away." This sentiment seems to suggest that the singer isn't interested in forming connections or maintaining relationships, and therefore will never stick around for long.
However, the song ends on a note of hope, with the lines "Tell me what you know and I will see if it rings truth/My mind is overflowin'/I believe that we all meet again." Here, the singer seems to suggest that while relationships and connections can be scary and uncertain, there is still a sense of faith or trust that people will ultimately come together again in some way.
