The lyrics to The Vision Bleak's song Descend Into Maelstrom describe the journey of the singer into a supernatural void known as the Maelstrom. The old man referred to in the first line is not reality and the singer recounts seeing and experiencing things that others have deemed untrue. The cry of dismay turns his hair grey and the smell of the sea never abandons him. The thunderous, raging void of the Maelstrom takes him by force and he describes the flashing lights, crushing sea, thunder and storm, blackened clouds and copper moon that he encounters.
The singer continues to descend through the Maelstrom, even as day becomes night and the world turns black. He can't explain how he manages to escape, but he jumps into its eye and is chewed through and spit back out, finally finding his way back up to the surface. Overall, the lyrics describe a harrowing journey through a supernatural portal and the awe and terror that come with experiencing something beyond one's understanding.
