Formed sept 2005 in the small town of Loughborough, UK The Voom Blooms kicked off their first collection of shows playing alongside Babyshambles, The Enemy, The View, Boy Kill Boy, Larrikin Love and The Paddingtons after playing a series of in-house-gigs to packed out kitchens and hallways across the country. Early support from Radio1 Dj's Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe saw the band's first two singles 'politics & cigarettes' and 'anna' both sell out rather quickly within a matter of days, earning the band a winning slot on Radio1's "fresh meat" and securing headline Club NME and Barfly tours across the UK. After only a matter of 6 months of being togther the boys ended their summer 2006 tour with a packed-out headline slot on the "Jim Beam Rising Stage" at Leicester's summer sundae festival.
"i think it all happened so fast. The 1st demo we recorded, 'politics & cigarettes', had earned us a one-off single deal with Fiction/polydor and before we knew it we were sat in a pub arguing with Lamacq over what was the best Blur song before listening to our single win Zane Lowe's 'Fresh meat' section on the way back home. We even ended up signing a copy of our vinyl for Ian Brown. To have all that happen so soon was a bit much to take, im not sure if at that point we were ready, we'd been together 5 minutes and only had a handful of songs, barely enough for a set."
As 2007 quickly came around the boys were met with the news that over in the U.S. their singles were beginning to receive regular airplay in Seattle and California and that Rolling Stone magazine had announced them as one of the best new bands of the year. This was soon followed with an invite to play @ British Music Week 2007 over in Germany alongside The Horrors on a week long sold out tour.
"...we absolutey loved it out there, we learnt so much travelling around, and being in such a confined space we found ourselves writing stacks and stacks of new songs together. At the same time George had been writing a bunch of short stories that he called 'aboard the albert' and in the end it turned out that that's where the idea for the 'nine ships' album emerged."
On arriving home the blooms signed their first record deal with Japanese label 'Fabtone Records' and the band immediately moved into the recording studio to start work on recording their debut album. Two weeks later it was finished.
The album 'nine ships' was released in Japan on the 5th September 2007.
The Voom Blooms are George Guildford (vocals/guitar), Thom Mackie (drums/vocals), Craig Monk (guitar/vocals), and Andy Wells. (bass).

She's asking me how could this be
(I dont know, I just dont know, maybe...)
If we are all such hurtful things, my love
Then we are all such hurtful things, but but but... We should be lovers
She said that could be alright
Yeah we should be lovers
She's asking me will this ever happen
She's asking me will this ever be
(I don't know, I just dont know, maybe...)
If we are all such wondergul things, my love
Then we are all such wonderful things, but but but we should be lovers
Have you seen her, its no secret Nicola
Where do all the Lovers go?
Where did all the Lovers go? (x2)
Why do you feel so low? (x3)
Why do you feel the way you do
...the way you do (x3)
The lyrics to The Voom Blooms' song "Lovers" tell the story of a conversation between two people. The first line sets the scene as she asks him how could this happen and how could this be. He responds with uncertainty, stating that he doesn't know why hurtful things happen, but he believes that they should be lovers despite their flaws. When she agrees and tells him that it could be alright, he suggests that they should be lovers. However, his uncertainty remains in the second verse as she asks if it will ever happen, and he responds with another "I don't know." This time, he muses that if they are all wonderful things, they should be lovers despite their doubts.
The chorus switches to a different person, Nicola, who is searching for where all the lovers have gone. This line could mean that Nicola is lost without love or that she can't find love in the world anymore. In the end, the song returns to the original dialogue as the refrain asks the listener why they feel so low and why they feel the way they do.
Overall, "Lovers" presents a wistful and hopeful view of love, acknowledging both the hurtful and wonderful sides of human nature. While the song doesn't provide any concrete answers, it suggests that love could be a powerful force that can overcome uncertainty and doubt.
