The trio of Scott Walker (Noel Scott Engel), Gary Walker (Gary Leeds, formerly of The Standells), and John Walker (John Maus, November 12, 1943 - May 7, 2011) moved from the U.S. to Britain in 1965. Like The Ramones, they were not related, and adopted the same last name as a show business touch. They had only minor success in the U.S., but topped the UK singles charts with Make It Easy On Yourself in 1965 and The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore) in 1966.
After a UK tour in late 1967, which also featured Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens, and Engelbert Humperdinck, followed by a tour of Japan in 1968, the group officially disbanded. After the group disbanded, all three members scored U.S. and UK chart hits, under their Walker names.
Reforming in 1974, The Walker Brothers recorded a version of Tom Rush's No Regrets which soared into the British Top Ten after an absence of over a decade. However, the three albums that followed sold poorly: No Regrets (1975), Lines (1976), and Nite Flights (1978). Scott Walker's tracks on the final album, Nite Flights, laid the stylistic groundwork for his later solo career.
John Walker died at his Los Angeles home on May 7, 2011
First Love Never Dies
The Walker Brothers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So long since I've kissed you
How I love to look into your eyes
Yes I still dream about you
My world is lost without you
For you are my first love, and
First love never ever dies
Whenever I feel lonely
I'm thinking of you only
One last kiss and then we said goodbye
The love I left behind me
Comes back to remind me
That you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
The love I left behind me
Comes back to remind me
That you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
And if you're thinking of me
And you find that you still love me
There's no use to go on living lies
Let's hurry to each other
For there could be no other
Yes, you were my first love, and
First love never ever dies
First love never ever dies
The Walker Brother's song "First Love Never Dies" is a melancholic reminder of the pain that comes with leaving a first love behind. The opening lines of the song, "All at once I miss you, so long since I've kissed you," set the tone for the rest of the song's lyrical content - a somber reflection on the singers' love lost. The desperate need to connect with a past lover resonates throughout the song, as the singer sings about how much he loves "to look into [her] eyes." Though time has passed and the two have parted ways, the emotions are still as raw as ever.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "First love never ever dies" - a message that is both sad and hopeful. The memories of a first love may always be with you, and the love may never truly disappear, but this can also serve as a reminder that love can be eternal in some ways. The singer is haunted by memories of his past love, but is also is given hope that they can reunite and share a love that never truly died. It is bittersweet, but ultimately reflective of the human experience.

A boy who fell in love with me more than 40yrs ago found me on fb on the other side of the world when he was terminally ill. Against all odds he survived nearly a year during which time our love was rekindled. He posted this for me, just before he died. I play it every day.

This song goes out to Leslie who was my first love at the somewhat tender age of 18 and that love has never died. 50 years later at the age of 68 that love continues to be embedded within me and always will be.
