Where's that tiger! Where's that tiger!
Hold that tiger! Hold that tiger ! Hold that tiger!
Choke him, poke him, kick him and soak him!
Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger?
Where oh where can he be?
Low or highbrow, they all cry now
"Please play that Tiger Rag for me"
Where's that tiger! Where's that tiger!
Where's that tiger! Where's that tiger!
Hold that tiger! Hold that tiger ! Hold that tiger!
Choke him, poke him, kick him and soak him!
Where's that tiger? Where's that tiger?
Where oh where can he be?
Low or highbrow, they all cry now
"Please play that Tiger Rag for me"
The Wanderers’ song “Tiger Rag” from 1957 is a classic rock and roll track centered around the legendary Tiger Rag jazz composition from 1917 by the Original Dixieland Jass Band. The song refers to hunting and capturing a tiger, but these are just metaphors for the wild and untamed nature of rock and roll music. The repeated line “Where’s that tiger” emphasizes the desire to find and feel the energy and excitement that rock and roll can bring.
The lyrics also mention “Low or highbrow, they all cry now / ‘Please play that Tiger Rag for me’,” which illustrates how rock and roll was breaking down class and racial barriers in the 1950s. It was a time when young people of all backgrounds were embracing this rebellious and liberating musical genre.
“Tiger Rag” has been covered by countless artists and bands over the years, becoming one of the most recognized and beloved jazz standards of all time. The Wanderers’ version showcases the iconic guitar riffs and high-energy vocals that define rock and roll music.
