The debut single, "Almost Prayed" (Creation, 1986), seemed to carry on where The Loft had left off; consequently both interest and critical approval were high for the record, and a second single was issued on Creation that same year.
For the release of their debut album, McGee had successfully managed to sign the band to Elevation Records - the WEA subsidiary with which he was associated. Expectations were high when Mayflower appeared in 1987, but the album was greeted with a mixed response[citation needed] by the critics and the band were eventually dropped from the label.
All was not lost, however, as they eventually returned to Creation for a further album, Judges, Juries and Horsemen in 1988. By this time, Oisin Little had departed, and interest in the band had waned. A final single, "Always the Light", was issued before the band decided to split up.

Pour me a cup and fill it up, fill it up.
You enclose me, you're my tortoise shell
You're my coat in the rain
With you I could dance all night
You make me want to say things like squeeze me tight
You make me think of all the good things
And try and sing like Frankie Lymon
Sing like Frankie Lymon
I lived with hatefulness I put up with fear
But they're no longer here
'cause you're my home on a winter's night
You're my friend in the summertime…
With you I could dance all night
You make me want to say things like squeeze me tight
You make me think of all the good things
You make me want to smile
And try and sing like Frankie Lymon
Sing like Frankie Lymon
Time time time time
Time runs away from us
Time time time time
Time doesn't matter that much
Time time time time
Time runs away from us
Time time time time
Time doesn't matter that much
With you I could dance all night
You make me want to say things like squeeze me tight
You make me think of all the good things
You make me want to smile
And try and sing like Frankie Lymon
The Weather Prophets’ song “Like Frankie Lymon” deals with the euphoria and excitement of being in love. The lyrics showcase how the person’s love fills the singer up and provides a sense of comfort and protection, similar to a tortoise shell or a coat in the rain. The person’s presence and love make the singer want to dance all night and express their love and affection.
The chorus is where the song gets its name, “Like Frankie Lymon.” The singer compares the overwhelming feeling of love to the joy and enthusiasm that Frankie Lymon expressed while singing. It’s a nod to the famous American singer and songwriter from the 1950s, who was known for his high-pitched voice and energetic stage presence. The singer also acknowledges the passage of time but emphasizes that it doesn't matter as much when they're with the one they love.
The song is a beautiful tribute to the early rock and roll days and the magic of love. The Weather Prophets' incorporation of Frankie Lymon and his music as a metaphor for the bliss of love is an interesting and creative approach to songwriting.
