and it's got me so uptight
You say you've hit the bottom
and you can't make it through the night
Then you tell me that you're leaving
and you're heading out the door
When did you start believing
someone else could love you more?
Open up your eyes girl it's plain for you to see
Don't you realize girl I'll never set you free?
Runnin' away, runnin' away
Everybody has their demons
and I've got mine on my sleeve
And I can't escape the feeling
of this wave of jealousy
So open up your eyes girl I think you ought to know
Don't you realize girl I'll never let you go?
Runnin' away, runnin' away
So open up your eyes girl I wish that you could see
Don't you be surprised girl when yer runnin' back 2 me
Runnin' away, runnin' away
The opening lines of The Weeklings's song "Running Away" suggest that the singer is concerned about a problem that his partner is facing, which is causing him to feel uptight. The partner has apparently hit rock bottom, and is considering leaving the singer for someone else who can love her more. The singer encourages her to open her eyes and realize that running away is not the solution, and that he will never let her go. He adds that everybody has their demons, which he himself struggles with, as he feels jealous and unable to shake the feeling.
The second verse is similar to the first, with the singer again trying to convince his partner to stay and not run away. He admits to his own flaws and struggles with jealousy, but at the same time urges his partner to realize that he will never let her go. In the final verse, the singer pleads with his partner once again to open her eyes and see that she belongs with him, and not to be surprised when she eventually returns to him.
The song "Running Away" is a reflection on the fear of losing someone we love. The singer is struggling to come to terms with the idea that his partner may be leaving him, and is trying to convince her to stay. The lyrics suggest that the singer may have some trust issues, as evidenced by his jealousy, but he is still determined to hold onto his relationship with his partner.
