Trust Issues
The Weeknd Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All she cares about is money and the city where she's from
Her intention is on paper
She don't need no fucking love
She's spillin' all this liquor tryna pass me all these cups
Well baby girl I'm zonin' somebody should have told her

I popped one
Fuck it I popped one
Oh girl I'm on one
Fuck it I popped one
I popped one

Girl I'm lying, I'm on a few
Don't you worry this ain't new
Can we take this to your spot, I'm on eviction number 2
Cause I popped one

Fuck it I popped one
Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah
Trust issues

Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah, Oooh yeah, oooah

Do you know whats going on over here (I do, I do, I do)
Have you even bothered to look? (I did, I did, I did)
Well if you know, than let me know
We don't have to keep runnin' in these circles (in these circles)
No more

Trust issues
Trust issues
Trust issues
Trust issues
Trust issues

Trust issues, no more

Trust issues, no more
Trust issues, no more

Overall Meaning

The Weeknd's song "Trust Issues" is about a woman who is only interested in money and her city instead of love. She's trying to get him drunk by pouring drinks and he's aware of it but decides to drink them anyway. The lyrics "Well baby girl I'm zonin' somebody should have told her, I popped one, Fuck it I popped one" suggest that he's aware of the situation but he's going with the flow as he's already heavily intoxicated. The song goes on with the Weeknd admitting that he's lying and is on a few other substances. He then requests the woman if they can go to her spot as he's experiencing eviction number two. The repetition of "Trust Issues" towards the end indicates that he has trust issues with this woman and he wants to end this back-and-forth game of circles.

The song basically talks about the struggles of being in a relationship with someone who doesn’t prioritize emotions and feelings, instead preferring superficial things. It is also about someone who has been hurt before and has trust issues with anyone they meet. The Weeknd admits that he’s drinking to try and numb the pain of his anxieties and worries. Towards the end of the song, he talks about wanting to get out of the cycle of pain and confusion but he needs the other person to be honest with him before they can move forward.
