SHE KEEPS IT SAFE BENEATH HER CLOTHES
A PRISONER IN THE SKIN SHE HIDES
IT LOCKS AWAY HER BONES INSIDE
AND HOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S TIED UP
AND HOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S ALL TIED UP
TIED UP
HOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S TIED UP
IN MY SOUL
I FEEL
I DON’T THINK I KNOW
I DON’T THINK I EVER KNOW
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
IT TAKES TIME
I THINK
TO TAKE IT ALL AWAY
TO MAKE IT ALL GO AWAY
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
…AND BURIED DOWN AND DEEP INSIDE
DESIRE SHE FORGOT
SHE FINDS
THE CHILL UPON HER BREAST
SHE BEARS
BUT ALL SHE NEEDS IS THE SKIN SHE WEARS
AND NOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S NOT TIED
AND HOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S NOT TIED UP
TIED UP
HOW IT HITS HER THAT SHE’S NOT TIED
AND WHEN IT HITS HER SHE IS UNTIED
IN MY SOUL
I FEEL
I DON’T THINK I KNOW
I DON’T THINK I’LL EVER KNOW
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
IT TAKES TIME
I THINK
TO MAKE IT ALL AWAY
TO MAKE IT ALL GO AWAY
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
IN MY SOUL
I FEEL
I DON’T THINK I KNOW
I DON’T THINK I’LL EVER KNOW
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
IT TAKES TIME
I THINK
TO MAKE IT ALL AWAY
TO MAKE IT ALL GO AWAY
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY CLOTHES BACK ANYMORE
ANYMORE
ANYMORE
ANY MORE?
ANYMORE
ANYMORE
ANYMORE
IN MY SOUL
I FEEL
I DON’T THINK I KNOW
I DON’T THINK I’LL EVER KNOW
I DON’T THINK I WANT MY SOUL BACK ANYMORE
The Whigs' song "Naked" seems to explore the theme of self-acceptance and freedom. The opening lines speak of a woman's cold, naked body that she keeps hidden beneath her clothes, seemingly trapped in a prison of her own skin. She feels tied up and weighed down by the literal and metaphorical clothes she wears. However, as the song progresses, she realizes that it's time to let go of these restraints and embrace her true self. She feels liberated and unbound, shedding her clothes and bearing her soul.
The lyrics in this song are powerful and raw, and they resonate with anyone who has ever felt constrained or trapped by societal expectations or their own insecurities. The themes of self-acceptance and liberation are universal and timeless, and they are presented in a beautiful and haunting way in this song.
Overall, "Naked" is an introspective and thought-provoking song that encourages listeners to shed their own clothes, both literal and metaphorical, and embrace their true selves.
