The group's sound was marked by Scotty Scott's fluid, melodic voice which featured on virtually all of their hits. Scotty's sound was so distinctive and likeable that, in his heyday, he was as recognizable as such noted R&B lead singers as Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers.[citation needed]
In 1987, they enjoyed a career resurgence when "Rock Steady" hit #1 on the R&B charts, and it became their first Top 10 success on the Hot 100, reaching #7. The Whispers also founded the Black Tie record label.
In the 1990s, The Whispers joined the Capitol Records family releasing more favorites. Expanding their creative horizons, brothers Walter and Scotty cut “My Brothers Keeper”, a critically-acclaimed duet album in 1993, scoring another R&B hit with a cover of the Intruders' "I Wanna Know Your Name." The 1995 release “Toast to the Ladies” featured a collection of love songs dedicated to women all over the world. In 1997, the group moved to Interscope Records where they featured the works of Baby face once again with their album, "Songbook, Vol. 1: The Songs of Babyface”. Both albums charted on Billboard's top 100 albums.
Marcus stopped performing with the group in 1989 due to ill health and the Whispers vowed never to replace him when he died in 2000. In the new millennium, the group still performs around the world to thousands of loyal fans. The group has not made any personnel changes and still consists of Walter Scott, Wallace Scott, Nicholas Caldwell, and Leaveil Degree. They have taken the world by storm, selling out in various casinos and hotels, music venues, and they have a tremendous following throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. However, they still find time for charity work with youth education, cancer organizations, 100 Black Men, and Domestic violence charities.
On September 23, 2003, The Whispers’ four decades of accomplishments were acknowledged when they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. On June 12, 2005, The San Francisco Chapter of the Grammy Awards presented the Whispers with the prestigious Governors Award, the highest honor bestowed by an Academy Chapter. They were also inducted into the Bay Area Blues Society Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2007, The Black Music Academy of America selected the Whispers to receive their “Living Legends” award.
They are one of only a few “old school” groups that can boast of having over 40 years in the industry with a worldwide fan base. The Whispers waited almost a decade to produce a new CD in 2005. This independent product, the first venture of their newly formed corporation Satin Tie Entertainment is a masterpiece entitled, “For Your Ears Only”. According to Walter, “This title was a way of saying to our fans that while we want everyone’s support, we very much want the support of our fans, who have been with us for many, many years.” It made its way up the Billboard chart immediately. In 2007, they release a DVD of their live concert entitled “The Whispers Live From Las Vegas”, the first of its kind. A CD soundtrack of the same concert was also released.

The Whispers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Only you can save me, my life equals you
Kiss me, drive me crazy, would you do that for me lady?
(Lady)
You say you want my babies, girl, if that's a fact
(Lady)
Then melt into me lady as though we were wax
Ohh, your body's designed by the wisdom of time
And I couldn't live without you, I'd be losing my mind, ohh
You're the answer to the prayers and just like fresh air
You keep me alive, you cannot be spared
(Lady)
I love you, oh, I love you, I said I love you lady
(Lady)
And no power on this earth can keep us apart
You're engraved in my heart, do you hear me pretty lady
I want you to hear every word I say
Ohh, your body's designed by the wisdom of time
And I couldn't live without you, I'd be losing my mind, ohh
You're the answer to the prayers and just like fresh air
You keep me alive, you cannot be spared
Don't you ever go nowhere
(Lady)
You see I love you lady, really, really love you girl
(Lady)
And no power, no power, baby, keep us apart
You're engraved in my heart, do you hear me pretty lady
Do you hear me baby
(Lady)
I want you to hear every word I say, yeah, girl
(Lady)
That means I love you baby
And that means that I want you baby
(Lady)
(Lady)
And that means that I'm gon' get you baby
Well, well, well, well, well, well, don't you know that I love you girl
You kiss me and drive me crazy, yes, you do girl
(Lady)
Kiss me, love me, squeeze me, love me, do anything that you wanna do
(Lady)
But don't you ever, ever, ever, ever go nowhere
Please I don't want you to go nowhere baby
You see I love you girl, can't you see that I'm saying
The Whispers' song Lady is about a man professing his love to a woman, expressing his desire for her and how she is the only one who can save him. He praises her beauty and acknowledges how she keeps him alive just like fresh air. He assures her that no power on earth can keep them apart, that he is engraved in her heart, and he loves her. The man then pleads with the woman not to leave him, as he cannot imagine his life without her.
The first verse establishes the woman as the only one who can save the man, and he hopes that she loves him as much as he loves her. He asks her to kiss him and drive him crazy, indicating that he wants her desire as well. The second verse reinforces the man's love for the woman and he asks her to "melt" into him as though they were wax. He then pleads with her to erase all his doubts about them.
The chorus, which is repeated throughout the song, talks about how the woman's body is designed by the wisdom of time and that she is the answer to the man's prayers. He reiterates his love for her and how engrained she is in his heart, and he asks her not to go anywhere.
Overall, the lyrics to Lady are about a man's deep love and desire for a woman who he believes is his salvation and the only one who can keep him alive.

This song brings back so many memories even all these years later. I always loved and listened to The Whispers. ❤️🎶 My husband always called me "pretty lady". I lost him close to 4 years ago on October 22, 2019. 💔😢😢 Not one day goes by that I don't miss him and think about him. 😢 He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and passed away exactly 2 months later. 😢😢Nobody knows what the future holds and none of us are promised a tomorrow. If you're reading this comment and you have loved ones who are still with you, take the time to tell them you love them and give them the biggest hug you can. 🤗🤗 I wish I could.❤️🤗🤗🤗😘 Rest peacefully my love ... 💜🙏💜😇💜
