After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit independent music underground, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene. Their successful albums White Blood Cells and Elephant drew them attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The White Stripes used a low-fidelity, do-it-yourself approach to writing and recording. Their music features a melding of punk and blues influences and a raw simplicity of composition, arrangement, and performance. The duo is also noted for their fashion and design aesthetic which features a simple color scheme of red, white, and black.
The White Stripes' discography consists of six studio albums, two extended plays (EP), one video album, 26 singles and fourteen music videos. The band has sold approximately 12 million albums worldwide, 2 million in the US alone, and their latest three albums have each won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
On February 2, 2011, the band announced on their website that they had disbanded.

Suzy Lee
The White Stripes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I would like to tell
My problem is
It's one you know too well
It's one you know too well
Ms. Suzy Lee
The one I'm speaking of
Is she the one I love?
Is she the one I love? (Alright)
Is she the one I love?
Is she the one I love?
She sent me flowers
With her tears burned inside
And you know what I'd do
I would run and hide
I would run and hide
And the paper
On it was my name
With the question
Do you feel the same?
Do you feel the same? (Alright)
To end this tale
The one I'm speaking of
I wish I had an answer but I just don't know
Is this really love?
Is this really love? (Yeah)
Is this really love?
Is this really love?
The White Stripes's song Suzy Lee is a beautifully melancholic track that explores the confusion and uncertainty in a relationship. The lyrics tell a story of the singer receiving flowers from Suzy Lee with her tears burned inside, and on the paper, his name with the question, "Do you feel the same?". Despite his feelings for her, he admits to wanting to run and hide. The song's hauntingly simple melody and Jack White's raw vocals add to the emotional resonance of the lyrics.
The song's refrain, "Is she the one I love?", underscores the singer's uncertainty about his own feelings. Despite the flowers and the question, he cannot give a clear answer, and the song ends with him admitting, "I wish I had an answer, but I just don't know. Is this really love?"
Suzy Lee is a reflection on the complexity of relationships and the difficulties in understanding our own emotions. It is a poignant and honest portrayal of the human experience of love, uncertainty, and doubt.
