the white stripes-it's true that we love one another
The White Stripes Lyrics

Well its true that we love one another
I love Jack White like a little brother
Well Holly I love you too but there's just so much
That I don't know about you
Jack give me some money to pay my bills
All the dough I give you Holly
You been using on pain pills
Jack will you call me if you're able?
I got your phone number written
In the back of my bible
Jack I think you're pulling my leg
And I think maybe Id better ask Meg
Meg do you think Jack really loves me?
You know, I don't care because Jack really bugs me
Why don't you ask him now?
Well I would but Meg, I really just don't know how
Just say Jack, do you adore me?
Well I would Holly but love really bores me
Well maybe we should just be friends
I'm just kidding Holly
You know that Ill love you til the end
Well its true that we love one another
I love Jack White like a little brother
Well Holly I love you too but there's just so much
That I don't know about you
Holly give me some of your
English lovin'
If I did that Jack Id have one in
The oven
Why don't you go off and love yourself
If I did that Holly there
Won't be anything left
For anybody else
Jack its too bad
About the way that you look
You know I gave that horse a carrot
So he'd break your foot
Will the two of you cut it out
And tell em what Its really all about
Well its true that we love one another
I love Jack White like a little brother
Well Holly I love you too

But there's just so much
That I don't know about you

Overall Meaning

In "It's True That We Love One Another," The White Stripes poke fun at the public's fascination with their relationship. The song features humorous dialogue between Jack White, the lead singer and guitarist, and Holly Golightly, a British singer and friend of the band. The lyrics express their playful, sibling-like bond while also drawing attention to the media's tendency to speculate about celebrity relationships.

The opening lines, "Well its true that we love one another, I love Jack White like a little brother" immediately set the tone for the song. Holly and Jack's banter continues as they trade insults and questions about their relationship. Holly asks Jack for money to pay her bills, to which Jack responds that she has been using the money he has already given her on painkillers. The song highlights the contrast between their deep connection and the fact that they don't know everything about each other.

The song also features a call and response section where Holly asks Meg, the band's drummer, if Jack really loves her. Meg responds by indicating that she doesn't care because Jack "bugs" her. Holly and Jack then joke about their feelings for each other before agreeing to be friends. The song’s humorous and light tone is typical of The White Stripes’ music.

on Candy Cane Children

The meaning of this song is basically saying the older you get, the less fun Christmas becomes usually do to adulthood. The lines "don't you know your name?...", probably refers to the adults telling kids to grow up as if they're saying "Do you know how old you are? You're getting too old for this stuff." Probably why he put the lines "nobody knows how to talk to children". Also, he puts the lines "think again" after a thought of one of the kids thinking of wishing to participate in Christmas activities. As if they're thinking "Yeah I probably AM too old for this.." "364 more tears girl" the sadness of getting older. Not participating feels like a missed opportunity and causes even more sadness..
