Miracle
The Whitest Light Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To love and lose is better than left out, just like baseball everyone strikes out, well I don't know why you would try and lie to me again, when I've been through this a thousand times and I, I'm not letting in

Only a miracle could save you now
But i'm not sure that miracles happen to people like you
And only a miracle can make me see the things you do
And miracles really do come true
'Cause now i believe in you
Every once in a while one of us finds out
Just what it feels like when it all works out
But I don't know why you would try and lie to me again
When i've been through this a thousand times again
And now i'm not giving in

Only a miracle could save you now
But i'm not sure that miracles happen to people like you
And only a miracle can make me see the things you do
And miracles really do come true
'Cause now i believe in you

You don't phase me baby
You've got to go,
Bombs away
Well oh baby lately

And only a miracle could save you now
But i'm not sure that miracles happen to people like you
And only a miracle can make me see the things you do

And miracles really do come true
'Cause now i believe in you

Overall Meaning

The Whitest Light's song "Miracle" talks about the struggles of love and loss, and how it's better to experience it than to be left out. The lyrics make an analogy with baseball, saying that even the best players strike out sometimes. The singer expresses disappointment with their partner lying to them, but despite going through this a thousand times before, they're not giving up hope. They believe in the power of miracles to turn things around, but at the same time, they're not sure if miracles will happen for someone like their partner. Nevertheless, they continue to hold faith in love and the possibility of a miracle.

The repetition of the phrase "Only a miracle could save you now" throughout the song highlights the desperation of the situation. It's like the singer believes that an improbable event could solve everything, even though they know it's unlikely. The chorus is optimistic, though, as the singer declares that they believe in miracles and in their partner. However, towards the end, the lyrics become more confrontational, telling the partner to go ("you've got to go, bombs away"). The singer seems to have reached a breaking point and is ready to move on.

Line by Line Meaning

To love and lose is better than left out, just like baseball everyone strikes out, well I don't know why you would try and lie to me again, when I've been through this a thousand times and I, I'm not letting in
Experiencing love and loss is preferable to never having loved at all. Just like in baseball, everyone is bound to make mistakes. I'm not sure why you would try to deceive me once more, when I've been in this situation countless times before and I refuse to be emotionally vulnerable.

Only a miracle could save you now But i'm not sure that miracles happen to people like you And only a miracle can make me see the things you do And miracles really do come true 'Cause now i believe in you
Your situation is desperate and only a miracle could help you now. However, I'm unsure whether miracles happen to someone like you. Only a miracle can make me understand your actions, but I now believe that miracles can happen because I have faith in you.

Every once in a while one of us finds out Just what it feels like when it all works out But I don't know why you would try and lie to me again When i've been through this a thousand times again And now i'm not giving in
Occasionally, one of us discovers what it's like when everything falls into place. I don't understand why you would attempt to deceive me again, especially after I've overcome this scenario many times before. Nevertheless, I'm not giving up.

You don't phase me baby You've got to go, Bombs away Well oh baby lately
Your actions no longer affect me, and you must leave. I'm cutting ties, and things will likely end explosively between us.

And only a miracle could save you now But i'm not sure that miracles happen to people like you And only a miracle can make me see the things you do And miracles really do come true 'Cause now i believe in you
Your situation is dire, and a miracle is the only thing that could help you. However, I'm uncertain whether you're deserving of a miracle. The only way I can understand your actions is through a miracle. Nevertheless, I now believe that miracles can happen because I have faith in you.
