Throughout the band's history, members have regularly been replaced, with the only constant member being the band's founder, singer and guitarist Ginger. Several band members have appeared in the line-up more than once. The band has also been split up or placed on hiatus by Ginger multiple times. In the 2010s, the band convened occasionally for various anniversary tours. A 2018 anniversary tour by the band's 1995 lineup led to a return to the studio. They released a new album in 2019 after a ten-year hiatus. Their most recent album, 21st Century Love Songs, was released in September 2021.

The Wildhearts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the second that the sorrow goes
Will breed a new career
And I wanna open up my eyes and see
‘Cos the agony and ecstacy
Look all the same from here
The top of the world
Where the sky's so blue and the girls are so beautiful
And times where the heaven is a mile away
And it's looking like it's there to stay
Unlikely to remain
And I got a list of things I'm working on
I'll be working on number one
I hope you do the same
You don't get no view like you do on the top of the world
The top of the world
Where the sky's so blue and the girls are so beautiful
In The Wildhearts’ song Top Of The World, the singer describes a feeling of afterglow and the hope that it will lead to a new beginning. The lyrics suggest that after experiencing some sort of sorrow, whether it be a personal emotion or a professional setback, the singer is now ready to move forward. They want to open their eyes and see the world for what it is, acknowledging the dichotomy of pain and pleasure that life brings. The imagery of being on top of the world is referenced as a symbol of freedom and success, where the view is unparalleled by anything below. The blue skies and beautiful women add to the idyllic nature of the situation, further emphasizing how the singer feels on top of the world.
The song seems to be about a personal triumph or success rather than a romantic relationship. The lyrics suggest that the singer has goals and aspirations, focusing on the list of things they are working on. The sentiment is not just about personal success but also that of the listener, encouraging them to work on their own priorities. The upbeat music creates a sense of optimism and motivation, with the chorus repeating the idea of being on top of the world. The message is to keep striving for greatness and to revel in the good times, even if they are fleeting.
