When asked about the band's main influences, Mike Portnoy commented that they are working towards a classic rock sound, influenced by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad, as well as newer artists such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz.
The band's self-titled debut album was released in Japan on May 5 through Victor subsidiary WHD Entertainment, with a worldwide release following on July 23 through Loud & Proud Records.

The Winery Dogs' "Desire" is a song about the struggle to resist temptation. The lyrics express the idea that the singer is caught in a trap by someone he is irresistibly attracted to, and can't seem to escape their hold. The first verse sets the scene of the singer being spun around and losing control, unsure of who he is anymore. The second verse reveals that the person he is entranced with is acting in a sly manner, and is manipulating him like a 'victim for hire'. Caught him when he was with poison in 1993. Blew me away and been a fan ever since. Lots of solo stuff out there along with the poison and Mr Big albums as well. Check him out, he's truly superb. You won't be disappointed.
