Hey! Miss Fannie
The Wink Westerners Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There comes fannie walkin' down the street
She walks so proudy and she talks so sweet
Hey, miss fannie, you sure look fine...
Tell me, please, will you be mine?

Hey, now... Miss Fannie
Hey, now... please, be mine
You'd become my highest desist
Listen to me, baby, please
You got me just mad for you
Please, don't drive me crazy, too

Well, let's go out and have a ball
I love you, baby, and that ain't all
I don't care what your mama said
Let's have a good time, anyway

Come-on, baby, let's go downtown
Rock, jump, mess around
We'll go to cabarets and bars
We'll hang out to left the house

Sugar sweet, so are you
I'm just crazy 'bout the way you do

My heart strings just go zing-zing
Every time you straight that thing

Overall Meaning

The Wink Westerners' song Hey Miss Fannie is an ode to a beautiful and confident woman, Fannie, who the singer is trying to impress. The song opens with admiration for Fannie's physical appearance as she walks down the street with confidence and charm. The chorus begs Fannie to be the singer’s and states that she looks fine. The lyrics suggest that the singer is infatuated with Fannie, possibly from afar, and is hoping to take their relationship to the next level.

The singer's passion increases through the song, as he pleads with Fannie to give him a chance, even becoming "just mad" for her. The singer desires to take Fannie out and have a good time, despite any objections from Fannie's mother. The song's final lines express how Fannie's movements just make the singer’s heartstrings go zing-zing, implying that he is deeply smitten.

THIS IS WHERE ROY GOT HIS FIRST START, before The Teen Kings.

Actually his start was with the band featured here, The Wink Westerners, while Roy was still in high school. My cousin - Charles "Slob Evans" - played doghouse bass in that band (he hated that nickname, btw). I didn't know they actually recorded anything until now though (wow). It also turns out they cut a demo for "Oobie Doobie", which was actually recorded and released by Sun with Roy's second band, The Teen Kings, as mentioned. The whole bio story (w. photos) is contained in the book "Dark Star - the Roy Orbison Story", by Allision Amburn. 👍
