We Are Young
The Wired Strings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Give me a second I
I need to get my story straight
My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State
My lover she’s waiting for me just across the bar
My seat’s been taken by some sunglasses asking 'bout a scar, and
I know I gave it to you months ago
I know you’re trying to forget
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies, you know
I’m trying hard to take it back
So if by the time the bar closes
And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Now I know that I’m not
All that you got
I guess that I, I just thought
Maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let’s raise a toast
‘Cause I found someone to carry me home

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
Just carry me home tonight (Nananananana)

The moon is on my side (Nananananana)
I have no reason to run (Nananananana)
So will someone come and carry me home tonight (Nananananana)
The angels never arrived (Nananananana)
But I can hear the choir (Nananananana)
So will someone come and carry me home (Nananananana)

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

So if by the time the bar closes

And you feel like falling down
I’ll carry you home tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Wired Strings's We Are Young narrate a story of a night out where the singer needs to get their story straight after indulging in drinks and making amends because they gave a scar to someone months ago. While going through the night, they are waiting for their lover across the bar, and their friends are getting high in the bathroom. As they try to make amends, they realize that they have someone to carry them home - a newfound friend that they toast with. They end up repeating the chorus, underlining how they are young, and it is time to set the world on fire.

The song's meaning highlights that youth is the time to make mistakes but also the time to make amends and find new ways to fall apart. The singer tries to rectify their mistakes, realizing that apologies are not enough and that they need to take ownership by trying harder. The chorus, 'We are young. So let’s set the world on fire. We can burn brighter than the sun, Tonight,' is a call to arms to live life to the fullest, embrace the moment, and seize the day.

@user-cn8go7ky2r

@Jorge Rivas i can relate...
in the beginning of the year, i was getting bullied by these girls who i thought were my friends which they always claimed to be..
but they'd constantly hurt me leave me out of things and constantly make me cry..
i was too scared to make new friends so i didnt..
im still with that toxic friend group, and even though they claim to be my friend, and claim to care about me, they never said sorry..
to make things worse, i'd cry every night just wishing to be in my old town again, when i felt like people cared about me and loved me..
all those good friends from my old town are gone now, and worse thing was is that i never got to say bye..
they're a bit better now but like i said they havent told me they're sorry yet..

you never realize how good you have it until it's gone..
