I would've loved Beastly Kingdom! I would say they should reconsider adding it, but the Pandora park kind of covers the "imaginary creatures" component. Such a cool idea!

It was one of they things they pitched to J.K. Rowling--including a "petting zoo for magical creatures." Since it was just a small corner of a larger park, she decided to go to Universal studios, who gave her a much larger, more impressive offering. That's when Disney called Cameron.

Havvng worked for the Mouse for over 15 years in Orlando, I could say so much about these projects and how much it affected the landscape of my job there and how it took a toll on me...but I kept working on until my eyesight finally went bad on 2017. Disney's America is still a sore subject here in Northern Virginia. They were going to fix a major interstate highway with the agreement that they could tie a monorail to both the Washington Metrorail, and close major airport near the interstate. Disney had two major problems going into this deal.
1. The image of Disney at that time. Eisner had done many majorly wonderful things to make an almost bankrupt themepark into the mogul it is today, however the company's percieved PR attitude at the time of Disney's America was "We are Disney, we will do what we want" which included making a movie about a Virginia Native American so completely inaccurate that led to a park exec stating "History is what we make it to be" This did not sit well with its neighbors.
2. The assholes that fought tooth and nail with harassment and lawyers to keep anyone from building on not battlefield land, but where someone from the 1860's may have actually walked on possibly wearing a uniform for maybe an hour while walking their way to one of the battlefields. For this reason, they wanted the land to be preserved. Instead this "untouched" land is now home to compact cookie cutter townhomes and high crime strip mall.
If Disney had a touch more humility and wealthy citizens that don't even live in that area anymore had been a bit more forgiving, this could have been a reality.

Oh, and the Interstate still hasn't been fixed, but 26 years later at least the metro finally got to the airport.

I wasn’t living in Northern Virginia back then, but I do now. My biggest question on that part of the video is “who on earth can’t pronounce Manassas?” I’ve been able to pronounce it since elementary school when I lived in the Midwest.

@Amy Mealey Couldn't tell you why, its just strange. I mean its practically phonetic. But welcome to the area! In case you are wondering, the highway was indeed 66 that was going to be repaired. If you find yourself driving a bit more west to Haymarket, you'll see a hospital on the right side just after the exit, that effectively would have been the start of the parking lot for the park land to the north. Yep, those people who fought tooth and nail to keep that land "untouched" instead had it turned into a high crime strip mall next to a town house community.

Another reason Disney's America was cancelled was because people were afraid Disney wouldn't put fully accurate history in it and with their adaptation of Pocahuntas being mostly fantasy, these people may have been right. Also American history has a lot of ugly parts like slavery and the treatment of Native Americans and while this NEEDS to be taught, Disney might not have wanted to do that.

Can't help but notice most of these are based on ideas of Disney and not from movies. Disney really does need to create more "themes" and rides based on their own ideas. That will help create new classics rather than rides from movies.

Back in 1985 I was fortunate enough to have a special tour with Disney security under the service tunnels of the Magic Kingdom and was told about a huge project that was being considered, a rival to Las Vegas, it would have been a Disney City, that would have been amazing if they saw that one through.

Should've also mentioned this one project that was under what they called "The Disneyland that never was". Rolly Crump, who was a loyal Imagineer under Disney and helped build the Haunted Mansion, wanted to design something in that attraction "Museum of the Weird". Disney saw the design and was so impressed, he felt it deserved it's own showcase. Unfortunately, Disney's passing lead the project to being scrapped. However a few of Crump's ideas were inspired features for the mansion.

The Japan Pavilion was to have an Audio-Animatronics show set in a Half Theater in the round concept. The two Ski Resorts that they attempted to build, one of which was to have the original Country Bear Jamboree show. The Persian themed Hotel, an Asian themed Hotel, a Venetian themed Hotel and a Mediterranean themed hotel. As well as a Hotel inside of the Magic Kingdom. A fifth park geared towards Adults with a Disney Villains theming at WDW. Trolley car service between the Disney Studios and Disney Springs. Monorail service to Disney Springs. Plans to have third party companies build office buildings in the Disney Springs area. The Frozen attraction was adapted to a re-theming of the Norway boat ride. A Disney Long Beach theme park built around the Queen Mary luxury liner that Disney once owned.

The Disney America was to be 8 miles from MANASSAS battlefield. About 25 miles from Washington DC. People in the area were furious and started a campaign to stop it because the traffic was already bad. I saw many bumper stickers “66 Disney’s new parking lot”.

I heard in the 90's Disney wanted to build a park at the closed Air Force base near Myrtle Beach, SC but the nearby cities weren't in favor of the added traffic and crowds it would bring. I can believe that as that area in the summer was slammed as it was.

It's called Tokyo DisneySea, not Disney Sea Tokyo.And there is no way a flume ride the size of Splash Mountain would fit in the space where Pooh is at Magic Kingdom. If I remember correctly, Villian Mountain was going to go where the old sub lagoon was (where Little Mermaid is now). Regarding Western River Expedition. it got shelved when after WDW opened, they were flooded with guests asking where Pirates was. So Pirates got fast-tracked and Western River got put om the backburner and later forgotten and never happened.

A common thing with Disney not putting money into restoring classic rides replacing them with new things or leave areas abandoned or never finishing projects and leaving little reminders of rides we once loved your lucky if a ride lasts a decade these days before turning it into something new or at times they scrap projects completely and those usually are great ideas.

Number 1 is the original plans for Epcot that got scrapped in the late 70s... The current park is just a fraction of that and was supposed to be more a shopping and transport hub. Think at this point most forget EPCOT is an acronym for "City Of Tomorrow".

You forgot one of the biggest ones, the Queen Mary and port of Long Beach I know because I worked there. When the Wrather hotel chain went to Disney after his death along with the Disneyland Hotel came the Queen Mary I did several years of Disney shows for them at the Queen Mary and the plan to do a park with With a monorail that connected Disneyland to Long Beach was well in the development this was between 1988 in the early 1990s

Except 1 piece of the pavilion did get used for meet greets the Norway pavilion for Elsa & Anna from Frozen to meet and greet their visitors wherever they are in particular France is the most famous example.

They did replicate Space Mountain at their park in China. They built a ride based on Tron that looks incredible! I don’t like roller coasters but I would ride Tron.

Such shame that Haymarket , VA didn't understand the positive impact. Instead they have expanded in uncontrolled & poorly constructed chaos, with absolutely no thought to how to manage traffic. So glad to be gone.

Omg the first theme park in the intro gave me chills because it’s an abandoned Six Flags in New Orleans. It got destroyed from Katrina and it’s going to be rebuilt soon. Shit scared me and I live 5 minutes away from it

Amazing song that starts off emotional sad then speeds up to make people understand why the projects were not finished or opened. The notes ah ha ah were quite moving and the way it played it’s chimes from a piano very moving and tearful David Copperfield best Magician ever I was only young when he was famous.

Now Disney is a place I won't even take my daughter to. So sad , my whole family for generations always got the youngest kids there every year. Sounds like they dreamed too big, but I think alot of it would have paid off had they stayed out of the political world

In the German River Ride at 14:46 , you show the picture of a cast-iron gate with the writing "Arbeit macht frei" on it. This was the gate of the Dachau concentration camp in WW II. I very much doubt, that this would have been seen in the German River Ride. It was the gate to a very real horror, which is far beyond the light-hearted entertainmet at Disney parks.

Avatar is better than the “beastly kingdom” it looks more beautiful, sounds peaceful (I mean when your walking into avatar) it’s just BETTER! Disney made a good idea replacing it with Avatar. You can also see the robot near on of the restaurants.

I'd say the mickey gas mask should be one list like this even if it was distributed to places like schools , it was an abandoned project, and a creepy one at that, glad that we (hopefully) won't have to see it again.

Instead of Disney building the TRON and Guardians of the Galaxy Coasters, they should have invested the resources in Beastly Kingdom and a new version of Horizons
