Hard Time
The Wrights Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If you wanna get to the other side
Get on your knees and tell him what you did last night
You're gonna have a hard time, 'til you get it right
You're gonna have a hard time
Tell me now what I'm gonna do with you
Won't do one thing I want you to
You're gonna have a hard time 'til you get it right
You're gonna have a hard time
You used to be such a good little girl
Now you gotta problem with the whole damn world
Sleepin' all day and runnin' around all night
You're gonna have a hard time 'til you get it right
You're gonna have a hard time
Better start prayin' child of mine
If you wanna get to the other side
Get on your knees and tell him what you did last night
You're gonna have a hard time 'til you get it right
You're gonna have a hard time 'til you get it right
You're gonna have a hard time
The lyrics of The Wrights's song Hard Time focus on a parent's frustration with their troubled child who seems to be making all the wrong choices. The song starts with the parent's advice to the child to start praying if they want to get to the other side, which probably means getting through this challenging phase of their life. The parent then urges the child to go down on their knees and tell God what they did the previous night, indicating that the child has been engaging in some questionable activities. The chorus of the song, "You're gonna have a hard time 'til you get it right," is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the difficulties the child will face as they try to find their way.
The second verse of the song is focused on the parent's frustration with the child's behavior. The parent is at a loss regarding what to do with their child, who refuses to listen to them and continues to do what they like. The parent seems to be wary of the child's tendency to seek temporary pleasure instead of working towards a brighter future. The child's lifestyle has taken a toll on them, and the parent believes that they will continue to have a hard time until they get their act together. The song's message is a warning to the child that they need to change their ways if they want a better life.
Overall, The Wrights's Hard Time is a powerful song that highlights the difficulties families face when dealing with troubled young people. The song's lyrics emphasize the need for prayer, forgiveness, and making better choices, and the message is one that many parents and their children can relate to.
