TWS have not looked back from that moment. They have enjoyed performances across the continent, from folk festivals to concert halls to full symphonic backing, they have been on national and international TV and radio shows, they have five recordings, three Juno nominations, three videos (all of which received full play on CMT) and Best Group award in the folk category of the Prairie Music Awards. They have also been included on numerous compilations and have been hired to write and record theme music for video and TV shows. Much of their music, such as 'Warrior', 'The Faucet', 'Farewell to Clayoquot Sound' and 'Leave a Little Light' has been covered, recorded and sung by performers and choirs from across the globe.
The Wyrd Sisters have, like any family (and long time band), changed and evolved and grown over the years. Original founding member, principal writer and lead stage personality Kim Baryluk has remained the constant thoughout the band's existence. Like groups such as 'Sweet Honey in the Rock' and 'The Flirtations,' where members have come and gone over the decades, the band continues to create the same beautiful music and carry the same inspirational message as it always has.
International critics have recognized the original sound The Wyrd Sisters have created with a fusion of folk/jazz/pop/blues as being a uniquely Canadian sound which sets the standard for up and coming singer/songwriters.
Warrior
The Wyrd Sisters Lyrics

With the heavens in my eyes
And as I walked along the lane
I heard the echoes of her cries
I cannot fight
I cannot a warrior be
It's not my nature nor my teaching
I was a lost and angry youth
There were no tears in my eyes
I saw no justice in my world
Only the echoes of her cries
I cannot fight
I cannot a warrior be
It's not my nature nor my teaching
It is the womanhood in me
I am an older woman now
And I will heed my own cries
And I will a fierce warrior be
'til not another woman dies
I can and will fight
I can and will a warrior be
It is my nature and my duty
It is the womanhood in me
I can and will fight
I can and will a warrior be
It is my nature and my duty
It is the sisterhood in me
The Wyrd Sisters's song Warrior is a powerful anthem that explores the nature of womanhood, femininity, and strength. The song begins with the story of a shy and lonely girl who hears the echoes of another woman's cries in the lane. Despite having the heavens in her eyes, she cannot see herself as a warrior - it's not in her nature nor in her teachings. The singer then continues to describe herself as a lost and angry youth who also hears the echoes of that woman's cries. However, as an older woman, the singer has decided to heed her own cries and become a fierce warrior, fighting for the rights of women until not another woman dies. With a strong sense of duty and sisterhood, the singer declares that it is her nature and her duty to fight and be a warrior.
The lyrics of Warrior can be interpreted in many ways, but one of the most obvious interpretations is that it's a song about feminism and the struggles that women face in a patriarchal society. The first two verses describe how women are often seen as weak and unable to protect themselves or others. Women are often socialized to be passive, gentle, and nurturing, making it difficult for them to see themselves as fighters or warriors. However, the last two verses of the song are more hopeful, suggesting that women can and should be warriors, using their strength and sense of sisterhood to fight for their rights and the rights of others.

I cannot fight
I am not capable of engaging in physical altercation
I cannot a warrior be
I do not possess the qualities of a fighter
It's not my nature nor my teaching

I perceived a total lack of fairness in the world around me
Only the echoes of her cries
All I could hear were the anguished cries of another woman
I am an older woman now
Now that I am older
And I will heed my own cries
I will listen to my own grievances
And I will a fierce warrior be
I intend to become a fierce fighter
'til not another woman dies
Until no woman loses her life needlessly
I can and will fight
I am fully capable of taking up arms

My femininity compels me to fight for my sisters

I discovered the Wyrd Sisters by accident, first hearing "Everything and More". That led me to this song...omg. I grieve that I did not discover it before now - there have been so many women in my life that I would have sent it to; friends who are now over the bridge. It honestly gives me chills.
