Everyone But You
The Young Veins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A part of you left the room
I am left talking to the apple
She comes to me when I dream
I'm tired of counting sheep to see her
I sleep because I need her
And everybody knows it but you

A wedding ring is just a thing
That weighs you down and occupies your finger
I know it sounds a little down
But love is all I'm really after

She comes to me when I dream
I'm tired of counting sheep to see her
I sleep because I need her
And everybody knows it but you, but you
Everybody knows it but you

I hope you're all listening
I'm pouring out my heart for paper
A part of me still believes
That love is all Im really after

She comes to me when I dream
I'm tired of counting sheep to see her
I sleep because I need her
And everybody knows it but you, but you
Everybody knows it but you

Everyone but you knows
Everyone but you

Everyone but you knows
Everyone but you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Young Veins’ “Everyone But You” tell the story of a love that is not meant to be. The song is about someone who is deeply in love with a woman who is not in love with him. The opening lines, “A part of you left the room, I am left talking to the apple” suggest that the woman he is in love with has left the scene and the singer is left alone with a piece of fruit, symbolizing how alone he feels. He then goes on to say that she only comes to him in his dreams and that he is “tired of counting sheep to see her.” The singer sleeps because he needs her, and everyone around him knows this except for the woman he is in love with. This indicates that the singer’s love is unrequited, and he is the only one who is unaware of this fact.

The lines “A wedding ring is just a thing, That weighs you down and occupies your finger” suggest that the singer is not interested in traditional marriage and is instead focused on finding love. He believes that love is all he is really after and that he cannot find it with anyone but the woman he is in love with, despite everyone else’s knowledge that she doesn’t feel the same. The repeated refrain “Everybody knows it but you” emphasizes the disconnect between the singer’s feelings and the reality of the situation.

In summary, “Everyone But You” is a bittersweet song about unrequited love, where the singer is the only one who is unaware of the fact that the woman he loves doesn’t feel the same way. Despite this, he remains hopeful and continues to believe that love is all he needs and desires.
