Honey
The Hush Sound Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Now your feet are gonna hit the ground
I am going sleepless
And you're out of lullabies
Honey, honey, honey
You're the death of me
Won't stop holding my hands, now
You never let me
You've got a dark heart
You've got a cold kiss
You want my love, my love, my love
(You want my love)
Everybody's breaking
Every time you start a-shaking
Don't come calling my name
Everybody's falling
Every time you come a-calling
I want you to know
Honey honey
You were the first one
Darling darling
Around my door
Honey honey
You'll never let me
You've got a dark heart
You've got a cold kiss
You've got a dark heart
You've got a cold kiss
You want my love, my love, my love
(You want my love)
Always turning back to you
Till you never let me down
Loving your illusions
Staring at a crooked ground
(Ah ah ah ah)
You always let me down
(Ah ah ah ah)
You always let me down
(Ah ah ah ah)
You always let me down
(Ah ah ah ah)
You want my love, my love, my love
(You want my love)
Honey, honey, honey
You're the death of me
Honey, honey, honey
Will you ever see?
The song "Honey" by The Hush Sound is a heart-wrenching ballad about a toxic love relationship. The lyrics depict a narrator who is deeply in love, but also deeply hurt by their partner's cold and manipulative behavior. The first two lines of the song, "Spin your body around, Now your feet are gonna hit the ground" suggests that the partner is constantly spinning and pulling the singer into a dizzying cycle of emotions, yet ultimately, they will "hit the ground" or face reality. The singer is sleepless, suggesting that the relationship is taking a toll on their mental and emotional health. The partner is out of lullabies, symbolizing that they don't care about the singer's needs and offer no comfort or solace.
The song's chorus has the repeated phrase "Honey, honey, honey" which metaphorically represents the sweetness of the relationship but also the toxicity and danger of it. The partner is the death of the singer, yet they won't stop holding their hands, leaving the singer feeling trapped and unable to escape. The partner never lets the singer go, making it difficult for them to move on and break free from the toxic relationship. The partner's character is revealed through the lines "You've got a dark heart, You've got a cold kiss," suggesting that the partner is manipulative, deceitful, and unloving.
In the bridge, the singer acknowledges their longing for the partner despite their flaws, "Always turning back to you, Till you never let me down, Loving your illusions, Staring at a crooked ground." The singer is aware that their relationship is based on illusions rather than reality, but they still find themselves hoping that their partner will change and love them back.
Overall, The Hush Sound's "Honey" is a reflective, powerful song that captures the pain and impact of a toxic relationship. It speaks to the struggles of loving someone who is not good for you and the difficulty of breaking free from the grip of that person.

Oh my, how I love The Hush Sound. I feel like I don't listen to them as often as I should, and then I just periodically remember that they're one of my favorite bands haha

Madelaine Raye Same, my first and favorite song was wine red because of a fnaf video and I just love their songs so much

I guess these guys were too good to last. I remember at the time thinking about how rare the male/female duet is in rock music. These guys were so compelling on every level.

Yes! I remember them YEARS ago back when I had an ipod video and shuffle. Grateful to have their music back then when they were appreciated without the mess the industry is now.

I'm just falling in love with The Hush Sound now, why haven't I discovered this gem of a band back then?
@ryanr3034
I really wish the band wasn't on hiatus. In 2012 they made a few singles but they didn't have this type of ragtime/rock infused sound. I wish I grew up listening to this :D
@renofthewind
They're on hiatus?

Dawnfox I think it’s like a permanent hiatus
