Gimme Some Lovin'
The spencer Davis group feat. Steve Winwood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, my temperature's rising and my feet hit the floor
Twenty people knocking 'cause they're wanting some more
Let me in, baby, I don't know what you've got
But you'd better take it easy, 'cause this place is hot

So glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin', gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin' every day

Well, I feel so good, everything is sounding hot
Better take it easy, 'cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day and I don't know what to do
Wait a minute, baby, it could happen to you

So glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin', gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin' every day

Well, I feel so good, everybody's getting higher
Better take it easy, 'cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day, nothing went too good
Now I'm gonna relax, honey, everybody should

So glad we made it, so glad we made it

You got to gimme some lovin', gimme some lovin'
Gimme some lovin' every day

Spencer Davis, the leader of a rock group that had some of the most propulsive and enduring hits of the 1960s, including ā€œGimme Some Lovinā€™,ā€ ā€œIā€™m a Manā€ and ā€œKeep On Runningā€ ā€“ all sung not by him but by a teenage Steve Winwood ā€“ died Monday October 19, 2020, in Los Angeles. He was 81.

The cause was pneumonia, Bob Birk, his booking agent and friend, said, adding that Davis had been hospitalized for the last week.

Davis co-wrote ā€œGimme Some Lovinā€™,ā€ his groupā€™s biggest hit. He played rhythm guitar in the band and occasionally sang lead vocals, lending his baritone voice mostly to blues-oriented material and never to the bandā€™s hit singles.

This is not only one of the most memorable tracks of the 1960's (the zenith of the 45 single); it's one of the bests tracks in the history of popular music.

Little Stevie first sang this at age 16. Insane...

Steve Winwood's voice always sounded like it was coming from far away, in an otherworldly, stupendous way. The distintinctive voice you know in a single note and so impossibly young here; like we ALL were back then. We were lucky kids!

@Stacy Ward Was only 18 then!

@Ronald Gall He was compared to Ray Charles, but his tone is higher.

Amy Grugan

Actually he was 15!

Spot on. On everything. It ducks getting old. It's good to have the experiences of our generation, when life was REAL, for better or worse, it was reality based. AI is the "devil" but you have to be our age to recognize it.

Over half a century later I'm still reminded daily of how fortunate we were to have these masterpieces ringing in our teenage ears.
