Man of the universe
The teskey brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah, oh

Well, I've been running since I was a child
Running like a river after the rains have died
Ain't never had one place to call my home
Lay my head in a different place unknown

I wake up early and I wake up late
But I never had time to hesitate
I pick up my paper and I pick up my bread
There's room on the road ahead

I don't want no country to call my own
I don't need one place to call my home
There ain't no one place or people that are better or worse
I'm a man of the universe, yeah

Like a good strong flowing river that's never been dammed
Never had to change, never had to plan
To collect too much wealth, it's a curse
We never had the sense to change, what's worse

Never needed no land, never need no borders
Never needed to stay in one place to count up pennies or quarters
Never had enough of them to put in my own purse
I'm a man of the universe

But I don't want no country to call my own
I don't need one place to call my home
There ain't no one place or people that are better or worse
I'm a man of the universe, yeah, yeah, yeah

But I don't want no country to call my own
I don't need one place to call my home
There ain't no one place or people that are better or worse
I'm a man of the universe

But I don't want no country to call my own
I don't need one place to call my home
There ain't no one place or people that are better or worse
I'm a man of the universe
I'm a man of the universe
I'm a man of the universe

And I'm not from here, not from here
I don't need, I don't need no fences to pull a rope around me

Wow, yeah
I don't need, yeah

Overall Meaning

The Teskey Brothers' song "Man of the Universe" is a reflection of the lyrics writer's nomadic lifestyle. The first verse focuses on his childhood, being on the move constantly, like a river. He has never had a place to call home, and every time he rests his head, it is in a different unknown place. The second verse talks about his adult life, where even though he wakes up early or late, he always continues to move forward without any hesitation. He continues on his journey with no fixed destination, and no country to call his own.

The chorus of the song is a declaration of his belief that he is a "Man of the Universe", free of borders and boundaries. He does not need a country to call his own or a place to call his home, as he feels like every place on earth is the same. He expresses that no one place or people are better or worse than others, and that he belongs to the universe as a whole, not just one specific location. The final verse emphasizes his belief in a borderless world, as he does not need fences to surround him.

Overall, "Man of the Universe" is a reflection on the beauty of a nomadic lifestyle, where one can travel freely and experience new places and cultures without being tied to one specific location. It's a song celebrating the sense of freedom that comes along with this way of life.

I was having a day feeling sad and hopeless. I went to work out. Riding my bike back this song came on. I found myself bobbing on my bike and swaying from side to side. I noticed the sun was setting and a child playing outdoors. The child waved hello and I waved back. I noticed life. All in all it was a damn good experience riding my bike like when I was a kid while I jammed to this music.
