That's All
Thee Midniters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And a promise to be near each time you call
And the only heart I own, is for you and you alone
That's all, that's all
I can only give you country walks in spring time
And a hand to hold always begins to crawl?
And a love whose burning light, will warm the winter night
There are those I am sure who have told you
They would give you the world or a toy
All I have are these arms to in pull you?
And a love, time can never destroy
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return here
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore for now and evermore
That's all, that's all
Say it's me that you'll adore for now and evermore
That's all, that's all!
The lyrics of Thee Midniters' song "That's All" is a declaration of love that the singer offers to their significant other. The opening lines express the idea that the only thing the singer can give to their loved one is a love that will last forever and a commitment to always be there for them. The next lines introduce the concept of a single heart, which is owned by the singer, and is dedicated entirely to their partner. The singer makes it clear that all they can give to their loved one is their own heart, without any reservations or compromises.
The following verses of the song describe the ways in which the singer will demonstrate their love for their partner. The first image paints the picture of a romantic country walk in springtime, which the singer promises to share with their partner. The second verse brings in the idea of warmth and comfort, with the singer offering to hold their partner and keep them warm on long winter nights. The lyrics talk of a love that burns like fire, promising to keep the winter blues away.
The bridge of the song shifts the focus to the context of the relationship, as the singer acknowledges that other people may have promised more to their partner than what the singer can offer. However, the singer does not shy away from admitting their limitations, as they promise to use their arms to embrace their partner and a love that will never be extinguished by time. The chorus of the song restates the simplicity of the singer's request, as they ask their partner to love them forever, and to make them the center of their world.

This song reminds me of my beautiful mother. She was born in Boyle heights in 1960 and grew up listening to Thee Midnighters. She is still going strong, and I’m fortunate to still be able to tell her that I love her every day. I love you Mom

Lovin' that sax part....1963. I..played in old wooden dance halls. and roller rinks...that sound reverberating around those old timber walls and ceilings...played into a shure mic through those crude pa systems..best we had back then..a sound you can't hear anymore...those old haunts are all gone now, most of them caught fire...but those harmonic reverberations.still float around in my head..oh what memories!
