I Love You
Thelonious Monk Lyrics

Someday he'll come along
The man I love
And he'll be big and strong
The man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay

He'll look at me and smile
I'll understand
Then in a little while
He'll take my hand
And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word

Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good news day
He'll build a little home
That's meant for two
From which I'll never roam
Who would, would you
And so all else above
I'm dreaming of the man I love

Rudy Vallee wrote this in about '28 or '29 and below are the lyrics. Thank you, Praguedive for this tender and loving interpretation by Monk. -------------------------------------------------- ----- ---- ---- I love you, I love you, I love you,
Sweetheart of all my dreams;
I love you, I can't live without you,
My life is empty, it seems.

You may do what you may,
Whatever you say,
You know that I'll always love you this way!

I love you, I love you, I love you,
Sweetheart of all my dreams;
It seems,
Sweetheart of all my dreams.

You may do what you may,
Whatever you say,
You know that I'll always love you this way!

I love you, love you, more and more I'll always love you,
Sweetheart of all my dreams,
It seems
You are my sweetheart of all my dreams!

This song would be perfect as the main theme for a period film about the 20's or 30's America. The innocence and guile of Monk's interpretation of this tune is the reason it can be appreciated in our own time. He always had the gift of making any old corny Tin Pan Alley song his own, by his own love of that tune's particular simplicity,,thererfore transforming it into something much more than what appeared on the surface alone.

beautifully said

Monk's stride piano & gospel roots come out loud and clear in this beautiful standard. Although Monk's compositions are legendary, I love how he pours his heart out on old standards such as this!

Monk always sounds current, modern. His music is fresh and timeless, a whole delite hear it.

Este tema lo muestra a Monk en una faceta poco comun pero que lo hace mas genio todavia: es dulce, suave, fino y romanticamente expresivo !!!!! Que artista por Dios !!!!!! Buenos Aires- Argentina

‘Thelonious’ is perhaps the best first name a human being has ever had. Simultaneously sounds like ‘melodious’, ‘the loneliest’, ‘felonious’ and ‘feline-eque’.

the sweet sad melodic groove is monk's finest. I love it!

Bellisimo, el lado romàntico del Monk.
