Overall Meaning

As an instrumental piece, Thelonious Monk's "Monk's Mood" relies on the interplay between the various instruments to convey its message. At its core, the piece is a reflective and contemplative meditation on life, represented through the use of minor chords and slow, languid melodies. The piano takes center stage throughout the piece, with Monk's virtuosic playing style on full display as he modulates through different keys and tempos. Yet woven throughout the piano's solo is a sense of longing and introspection, echoed in the wistful saxophone lines and the understated percussion. Each instrument seems to be searching for meaning, but never quite finding it, as if the mood itself were the message.

Maybe THE most beautiful. :)

Beautiful, museful melancholy. The blues, in short.

This is some beautiful music. Good ole jazz. This is art and talent. Not modern pop autotune.

Mark Collins

Unfortunately there is plenty of modern auto tuned pop that is pure pavlovian commercial product, nothing more, and much of that, even as mere commodity, is weak fare. auto tune can be used ingeniously, even subvesively, but the overwhelming bulk of what's broadcast is dishearteningly awful. always good stuff out there, even in plain sight, if one is receptive, and also willing to dig. back to monk, this rendition just kills me...

No hay comentario esta noche. La extraordinaria música que estoy viendo y escuchando transmitida por YOUTUBE me ha transportado a una DIMENSIÓN DESCONOCIDA, gracias. Desde Caracas, Venezuela un saludo afectuoso.

A jazz original. He was criticized for lack of technique. A Europian tried to correct Monk's music by removing what he thought were wrong notes. He removed the very essence of the music. Play this music using " correct" technique destroys the very essence of Monk's music. Dissonance is a key element.

you know that was a joke right - sarcasm is a little too hard for this one

I think you're referring to Hans Groiner. His renditions are nice, but I too prefer the original. I mean where would Hans be today if it weren't for Monk himself?

You can always re harmonize or re arrange piece of music to a subjective liking.
