That piano solo was later harmonised on Who’s afraid of the Big Band Monk. Another great recording of Monk’s music!

Matt Barber

There's plenty of trumpet in the performance of this on the Big Band + Quartet in concert album. Also, Hall Overton arranges the Monk solo from this Blackhawk show for the band to play at the end -- it's pretty expertly done.

Hey! Nobody ever got anywhere by just giving up! If you've never heard anybody play Four in One on the trumpet... become the first! I'm a trumpet player myself, and with enough practice, you can play practically anything you want, and this tune is no exception! Good luck, and keep trying! Surprise yourself! Prove yourself wrong!

Just realized: This is written to the changes of Five Ft Two! Hence: Four in One.
