I love this guy. Monk was the funkiest cat that ever was. Jack (Kerouac) said goofy in respect to bebop. Yeah, but that isn't and wasn't a harsh judgement. Goofy means something different (and holy) to beats and beatniks than it does to normies and squares. It means goofing, off kilter, grooving to the inner pulse of life itself. Such was Monk. The greatest. He was. And is.

Speaking of fake news, the tour-de-force performance which you uploaded, of “When It's Darkness on the Delta,” was originally issued as part of the “Live at Lincoln Center” album on Columbia. But on that record, there's applause that's been edited in and overdubbed to cover the beginning of the song. In fact, this was the opener for one of the sets, and the audience was dead silent (as it is on this later compilation).
