You think I wouldn't notice
Her mind's made up
Her love is gone
I think someone's trying to show us a sign
That even if we thought it would last
The moment would pass
My bones will break and my heart would give
And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
And I remember the time when you left for Santa Monica
And I remember the day you told me it's over
It hurts to breathe
Well every time that you're not next to me
Her mind's made up
The girl is gone
And now I'm forced to see
I think I'm on my way
Oh, it hurts to live today
Oh and she says "Don't you wish you were dead like me?"
And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
And I remember the time when you left for Santa Monica
And I remember the day you told me it's over
I wanted more than this
I needed more than this
I could use of more than this
But it just won't stop
It just won't go away
I needed more than this
I wanted more than this
I asked for more than this
But it just won't stop
It just won't go away
And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
And I remember the time when you left it all behind
And I remember the day you told me it's over
And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
And I remember the time when you left for Santa Monica
Yeah, I remember the day you told me it's over
The song "Santa Monica" by Theory of a Deadman is a ballad about heartbreak and loss. The singer is left alone by his lover, while they head to Santa Monica, leaving him with all their excuses for leaving. The song seems to capture the pain and confusion of the singer, as he cannot understand why his lover left him. The lyrics in the first verse suggest that his lover has been setting up the stage for leaving him for some time, but the singer was oblivious to the signs. The line "She fills my bed with gasoline, you think I wouldn't notice" implies that the singer was too caught up in the relationship to realize the changes in his lover's behavior. Yet, the chorus of the song echoes his memories of the day when she left and how it hurts to live without her.
In the second verse, the singer confesses that it hurts every time his lover is not with him, and he realizes that she is truly gone. The line "And now I'm forced to see, I think I'm on my way" showcases the singer's acceptance that the relationship is over, and he must move on with his life. However, the most poignant line of the song is, "Oh and she says 'Don't you wish you were dead like me?'" which conveys the desperation and loneliness felt by both parties. Despite the heartbreak, the singer cannot stop remembering the day when his lover left for Santa Monica.

She fills my bed with gasoline
I suspect that she's trying to burn me alive
You think I wouldn't notice
But I see what she's doing
Her mind's made up
She's already decided to leave me
Her love is gone
She doesn't feel the same way about me anymore
I think someone's trying to show us a sign
The universe is telling us it's time to accept the reality of our situation
That even if we thought it would last
We were wrong to assume our love would be eternal
The moment would pass
Our relationship is coming to an end, as all things must
My bones will break and my heart would give
The pain of losing her will be unbearable
And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
I can never forget the day you abandoned me for a new life in Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
I was stuck behind, sorting through all the reasons you gave me for leaving
And I remember the time when you left for Santa Monica
I recall the moment you left me behind without a second thought
And I remember the day you told me it's over
I will never forget the day you broke my heart with your words
It hurts to breathe
The pain of losing you is suffocating
Well every time that you're not next to me
Being apart from you is unbearable
The girl is gone
You've moved on to a new life without me
And now I'm forced to see
I have to face the reality of our situation
I think I'm on my way
I'm starting to accept that our love is over
Oh, it hurts to live today
Every moment without you is agony
Oh and she says "Don't you wish you were dead like me?"
You're asking me if I want to give up on life like you have
I wanted more than this
I expected more from our love
I needed more than this
I required more from our relationship
I could use of more than this
I could have benefited from more than what you gave me
But it just won't stop
The pain of losing you won't go away
It just won't go away
I can't shake the feeling of your absence from my life
And I remember the time when you left it all behind
You left me behind, abandoning everything we had built
Yeah, I remember the day you told me it's over
The moment you told me you were leaving me still haunts me

Indeed. I am 52 & have been fighting a losing battle against Chronic Pain due to inoperable Spinal Damage for the last 30 years. I am now almost totally disabled. A few years ago I asked my Wife (Married in 2008) if she ever felt like The Biblical Job's Wife, who told him to, "Curse God and Die."
Her response?
"I would never say anything THAT cruel to you."
Ironic, since that's just as cruel.

I'm telling you when you get older these songs aren't just "fun" to listen to anymore.
They will creep up and hit right in the heart.

@Tori Kazuki Shit, after 15 years, that's brutal even though it probably wasn't meant as an insult! I feel bad for you and wish I could give you a hug (and I ain't generally a hug sort of guy). As for myself, I am pretty sure I am done with the 'love' business. It's all a crock of shit tbh. I loved someone, and frankly I still do, but that's long done and over with.

@Joshua M Over my 52 years I have had 3 big relationships. Each one ended in a steadily increasing level of catastrophe. (My 2nd, in the mid 1990's, I was engaged to an Ardent Feminist. She left me, claiming, 'I was the most abusive man she'd ever known.' Because I tried to point out that she herself was steadily becoming more abusive.
I'm still stuck in my 3rd, because of my disability & have nowhere else to go. My wife has not left me because it is far cheaper to keep me on an Insurance-leash, instead of divorcing me & risking paying out a large Alimony.
I believe in Love. The Greeks have four words for it that excellently categorize the variants- Phileo, Storge, Eros & Agape.
Eros is by far the weakest & most transitory. And if I could meet the guy who wrote- 'It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.'? I would smack him upside the head & tell him he was Dead Wrong.
