Die Like a Motherfucker
Therapy? Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ex-consumer
Drowned my computer
Caught the fucker talking back to me
Cut to the chase
Bury the waste
Disposable is the key

When you live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Die motherfucker
Die motherfucker die

Bored to distraction
With your comedy action
I wish you'd get up and leave
Out of my face
And into the shit
Long may you rot in peace

When you live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Die motherfucker
Die motherfucker die

Atomised
Itemised
And super-sized to death
Short attention spawn
The curtains drawn
A generation takes it's last breath

When you live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Die motherfucker
Die motherfucker die

Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Live like a fucker
You die like a motherfucker
Die motherfucker
Die motherfucker die

Die motherfucker die

Overall Meaning

The song "Die Like a Motherfucker" by the Northern Irish alternative rock band Therapy? seems to be an indictment of the disposable consumer culture and the internet age. The first verse suggests that the singer has become so exasperated with his computer that he has drowned it. He is fed up with his computer and its features, which have made it seem to be talking back to him. The tone is aggressive and frustrated. The chorus, which repeats twice after each verse, is a warning to people who live recklessly or selfishly - "when you live like a fucker, you die like a motherfucker." Essentially, the singer is saying that if you live with disregard for others and the environment, you will have to face the consequences of that way of life eventually.

In the second verse, the singer is bored with someone's superficial or insincere personality, wishing they would leave. The character is depicted as someone who hides their true nature behind a facade of wit and humor, which the singer finds irritating. The chorus again emphasizes that a reckless lifestyle comes with a price - "live like a fucker, die like a motherfucker." The third and final verse invokes images of a society that has become "atomized," "itemized", and "super-sized to death" - a generation of people with short attention spans and little substance. The song ends with a final, forceful chorus line - "die motherfucker die" - as if to suggest that the only way to escape the consequences of living recklessly is through a total reckoning.
