Lonely
Therapy? Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Leave a message or leave me alone

What if the sky falls and shoves me into the ground?
Would you pray for me or would you pull me out?
Yeah, I know you're no angel, but I'm stuck right now
Don't walk away, pretending you don't know how

Like a fat kid suicide, believing they're wrong
And you were giving up early and going alone
Yeah, I know you're no angel, but I'm stuck for friends
And once I'm out, I won't be back there again

And if you're lonely
(You're lonely)
And you're cryin' all the time
(You're cryin')
Heaven help me
(Heaven help me)
'Cause your heart's as dead as mine

We all go slowly
(Go slowly)
And time is catching up
(Time is catching up)
If you would only
(Only)
Give me two more minutes of your twisted love

Every day it gets much better
Everyone's on your side
Skies colliding in your name
Strike it up and lights and step outside
'Cause you know what's going on

But if you're lonely
(You're lonely)
And you're cryin' all the time
(You're cryin')
Heaven help me
(Heaven help me)
'Cause your heart's as dead as mine

We all go slowly
(Go slowly)
And time is catching up
(Time is catching up)
If you would only
(Only)
Give me two more minutes of your twisted love

(Your twisted)
Your twisted love
(Your twisted)
Your twisted love

(Your twisted)
Your twisted love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Therapy?'s song "Lonely" seem to express feelings of isolation, desperation, and a plea for companionship. The opening line, "Leave a message or leave me alone," suggests a longing for contact and communication, even if it's just a voicemail message. The following line, "What if the sky falls and shoves me into the ground?" further emphasizes a sense of vulnerability and fear. The singer is questioning if those around them would provide support and assistance, or if they would abandon them in their moment of need.

The chorus brings the theme of loneliness to the forefront, as the singer pleads with someone to "give me two more minutes of your twisted love." The repetition of "your twisted love" hints at a relationship that may be complicated or not fully healthy, but the singer is willing to endure it to avoid feeling alone. The mention of a "fat kid suicide" and "going alone" adds to the sense of despair and hopelessness. The final verse seems to offer some hope, with the idea of things getting better and people being on the singer's side, but the chorus still brings the focus back to their emotional state and desire for connection.

Overall, the lyrics to "Lonely" paint a picture of a person who feels adrift and alone, reaching out for any form of connection and willing to tolerate less-than-ideal situations to avoid being completely isolated. The use of vivid imagery and relatable emotions make this song a powerful exploration of the human experience.

Therapy? is the most underrated band in the world. The band is wonderful!

Paranoidave

I'd say it's easily their poppiest album. And that is by no means a bad thing. These guys can write a catchy hook like no-one mine. For me this is one of those albums that gets played on rotation over summer months!

TrephineArtist

Great song from one of the most crazily overlooked rock albums 'Semi-Detached' which is among their best records IMO.

Trust1878

Loved this song, probably my favourite song from the underrated album Semi Detached. Damn, it brings back the memories, some good, many bad from that time. I was 18 when this was released. 42 now. Fuck, how I wish I could go back knowing what I know now. I would do so many things differently...

FrankyHaemmer

My favourite loud band. Man, they have so beautiful melodies. See them in a very small club in Cologne in four days. Have see them a few times before, they`re great.

dummytree

I don't know about other countries, but I feel it should have sold way better. It's a very solid album.

this the one u use

I wasn't sure about Semi-Detached, but I saw it in a charity shop and got it just because it was Therapy?, so I got a lovely surprise when I realised that it's a really great album.

Alex McQuiggan

This is actually my favorite therapy song. I remember being underwhelmed by semi detached. After Nurse, Troublegum and most of Infernal love i didn't get it. I love it now.

+Alex McQ Infernal Love still hasnt connected with me but I love Semi Detached.

DrAkiE

I think infernal love is a masterpiece, I think one can only connect to it when you have been in a very dark place for awhile.
