Swords Of Truth
These New Puritans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Draw swords of truth in the back of the car, cue my attack, you know I will say
Strike me down, I am an island, a mountain, a river and as I always sing
You know I'll be thinking this music's symbolic, this music is weightless and when I sing, so am I
You'll be slashing at the air, describing nothing

We wrote all the numbers in your body, we wrote all of the numbers in your body
I am in the rain, I am in the rain, I am in the- sixteen seconds!
I'm writing on airwaves, I'm writing on the air, I'm writing on your memory, I'm writing on...
The swords of truth, the back of the car, cue my attack but you know I always sing
Strike me down, strike me down, strike me down, strike me down
Cos I am an island, a mountain, a river and as I see that, you know I am thinking
This music's symbolic, this music is weightless

We wrote all the numbers in your body, we know all of the numbers in your body
I am in the air, I am in the reign, I am in the- sixteen seconds!

Swords of truth in the back of the car, cue my attack but to you I will say

Strike me down, strike me down, strike me down, strike me down, strike me down!
I am an island, a mountain, a river...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Swords of Truth" by These New Puritans paint a picture of a battle being waged. The singer declares that they are ready to fight and will draw their swords of truth in the back of the car. They acknowledge that they will be struck down, but they are an island, a mountain, and a river, strong and unwavering. They sing of music being symbolic and weightless, of writing on airwaves, memory, and rain. They declare that they know all of the numbers in your body and they are in the air, in the reign, for sixteen seconds. They once again call for their opponent to strike them down because they know they are strong and will survive the battle.

The imagery used in the song seems to be a metaphor for the artistic process. The swords of truth could represent the words and ideas that the band is putting into their music, and the battle could represent the struggle to create something meaningful and impactful. The references to rain, airwaves, and memory could represent the ethereal nature of music and how it exists beyond our physical senses. The line "we wrote all the numbers in your body" is particularly intriguing and could represent the idea that music can take hold of us on a deeper level than just our minds and hearts, reaching into our very essence.

Line by Line Meaning

Draw swords of truth in the back of the car, cue my attack, you know I will say
I am fierce and ready to fight for what I believe in. I am using the power of my words to take on my opponents and I am confident that I will emerge victorious.

Strike me down, I am an island, a mountain, a river and as I always sing
Even if my enemies try to bring me down, I am strong and resilient. I am like an island that cannot be moved, a mountain that cannot be destroyed, and a river that cannot be stopped. And I will continue singing my message no matter what.

You know I'll be thinking this music's symbolic, this music is weightless and when I sing, so am I
My music is not just entertainment, it carries a deeper meaning and purpose. It is a representation of my beliefs and identity, and when I perform it, I feel weightless and free.

You'll be slashing at the air, describing nothing
My opponents may try to attack me, but their efforts will be futile. They are only slashing at thin air and unable to describe or understand my true meaning.

We wrote all the numbers in your body, we wrote all of the numbers in your body
We have a deep knowledge and understanding of you. We have unraveled your secrets and can see through your facade.

I am in the rain, I am in the rain, I am in the- sixteen seconds!
I am everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I am like the rain, constantly present yet constantly fleeting. And the brief mention of sixteen seconds alludes to the fragility and transience of life.

I'm writing on airwaves, I'm writing on the air, I'm writing on your memory, I'm writing on...
My message is not limited to physical mediums, it is carried through the airwaves and imprinted in people's memories. I am leaving a lasting impact on their minds and souls.

Cos I am an island, a mountain, a river and as I see that, you know I am thinking
Just like before, I am emphasizing my unbreakable spirit and steadfastness. And as I witness that, it reinforces my belief in myself and my message.

This music's symbolic, this music is weightless
Once again, I am stressing the deeper meaning and significance of my music. It is not just a collection of sounds, it symbolizes something greater than that. And to me, it is weightless and liberating.

Swords of truth in the back of the car, cue my attack but to you I will say
I am ready to strike with the full force of my words, but I will surprise and confront you when you least expect it.

Strike me down, strike me down, strike me down, strike me down, strike me down!
I am daring my enemies to try and take me down. But even if they do, I will keep rising up and fighting for what I believe in.

I am an island, a mountain, a river...
This final line repeats and emphasizes the same idea from earlier - that I am strong, unyielding, and indomitable. No matter what challenges come my way, I will remain true to myself and my beliefs.

i really like what i have heard so far, slightly danceable, very moshable, the lyrics are catchy but not polished much like when punk first came out, most of all there is a raw feel to the songs, which i appreciate, and in a world of dubbed, is the organic that is gold now.

xDeadStarr

I love it!
