They were formed in 1973 and are still releasing records today. Their lineup has changed over the years, as has their musical style, although it has not strayed too far from the "roots reggae" style that they are generally categorized as.

With Dean Pond in the touring lineup (Dean Pond, founder of Dub Mystic and one time musical director and drummer for Culture, and V.I. producer of the year) this year (??) should prove to be even bigger for Third World.

Listening to these golden oldies brings back so much great memories of my childhood, my dad use play all these jams when we were growing up, it was always wondeful times with family and friends around us, good times as a young kid with no worries in the world!! My mom used to tell me of the wonderful memories this genre of music brought to there lifes and yet i was only born in 88 i wished i was a product of their times so i could share that same experience. Listening to this songs makes me miss my dad so so much, i wish he were here right now so i could play this songs and have one more of those good times with him as a grown man. The majority of Jamaican REGGAE groups play REGGAE, the tempo is there and we build an orchestration and lyrics on it .THIRD WORLD is radically different, you just have to listen and from the start, you are trained towards paths full of originality, creativity, rich, subtle sounds which pleasantly surprise and which immediately bring more obvious to the orchestration not to mention the vocal, the accuracy of the voices, the spirited rhythm which does not weaken for a single moment unless this is not to bring more to the musical quality with a silence, a break in tone or a digression that surprises us and leads us to another musical track, a short moment to bring us back very quickly to the main track, all with ONE GREAT TALENT.In my humble opinion of music enthusiast from all walks of life, THIRD WORLD is the most creative and most original reggae group in the history of REGGAE and far away. Hi@@kayvancooten4657 ,I know a little about all these REGGAE groups, pioneers of what I call real REGGAE and not what it has become today, a pale imitation just like REGGAETON which is appreciated in JAMAICA and which I do not like not at all. I am not a fan of REGGAE in general but my sister who was a RASTA for many years almost made me drunk every day with these vibrations with groups such as STEEL PULSE that you mentioned, BOB MARLEY and THE WAILERS, JAH MAN, BURNING SPEAR and many others. My Best Friend, formerly was an absolute fan of BOB MARLEY so I went to a good school despite myself...

I hear this and I get such a poignant burst of nostalgia...makes me cry. The superb base player and beautiful melody....just takes me back to when I was aged 20... life was a mix; of dressing to the ' new romantic' nines for all day discos - with no worries in my world - and the promise of a fantastic adventure still ahead of me. I never had a broken heart or gave one, still had all my loved ones round me and I was the happiest I have ever been in my life. Wish I could go back and live every precious moment of those years again. We who were having the time of our young lives in the eighties were surely the luckiest of all.

On this day in 1982 {June 5th} Third World performed "Dancing On The Floor (Hooked On Love)" on the nationally syndicated television program, 'Soul Train'...
Exactly one year earlier on June 5th, 1981 the song was in it's first week on the United Kingdom's Official Top 75 Singles chart at position #64, seven weeks later it would peak at #10 {for 2 weeks} and it spent fifteen weeks on the Top 75...
And on the same 'Soul Train' episode the band also performed "Try Jah Love", the month before on May 2nd, 1982 it reached #47 {for 1 week} on the Top 75 chart and it stayed on the chart for six weeks...
The Jamaican reggae band had three other Top 75 records on the U.K. chart; "Now We Found Love"* {#10 in 1978}, "Cool Meditation {#17 in 1979}, and "Talk To Me" {#54 in 1979}...
