Stables has been turning heads in all the right places since 2003: a first album Krülle Bol produced by John Parish , singles (Two Wooden Spoons) released by Rob da Bank’s label Sunday Best and a long-awaited second album on Dreamboat Records in 2010. Wriggle out the Restless was born out of a new, slower way of working. Gestated over a long period the album has drawn on This Is The Kit’s many musical friends (Rozi Plain [[label]Fence ], Jim Barr [of Portishead ] Francois [Fence] and The Liftmen [[label]Twisted Nerve]) to fill out their delicate music into a full, robust sound. “The aim was to have fun playing with people who’s work I really like” says Kate “the more you exchange and share with people the better things get and the more you learn.”
This Is The Kit perform regularly as a two-piece with Stables on vocals, guitar and banjo, and Vernon on violin, guitar, bass and percussion.

This Is the Kit Lyrics

And do you know you're looking for it
And will you know it, when you find it
And do you know you're looking for it
Tako takoti o takoti sman yamba takoti
By my demon eye
By my Belgian ear
By my demon eye
Which one of your gypsy wives am I
Tako takoti o takoti sman yamba takoti
But honestly what am I to you?
What are you to me?
But honestly what am I to you?
What are you to me?
We are both not enough, and too much
Love is not enough, and too much
And will we know it, when we find it
And do we know we're looking for it
And will we know it, when we find it
And do we know we're looking for it
Tako takoti o takoti sman yamba takoti
The first lines of the song ask a couple of existential questions about the search for something undefined. The repetition of these lines emphasizes the importance of finding and recognizing what one is looking for. The next lines could be interpreted as a conflation of the senses, with the demon eye standing in for a more intuitive way of seeing or perceiving the world, and the Belgian ear symbolizing a more analytical, reasoned approach. The use of the phrase "gypsy wives" could be seen as a reference to a romanticized and exoticized notion of love and relationships, and the uncertainty and unease that comes with that idealization. The repetition of "tako takoti o takoti sman yamba takoti" creates a hypnotic effect, adding to the dreamy, otherworldly feel of the song.
The next lines of the song continue the theme of uncertainty and questioning, with the singer asking what their relationship really means to the other person. The repetition of the question emphasizes the lack of a clear answer, and the ambiguity and complexity of human connection. The lines "We are both not enough, and too much/Love is not enough, and too much" suggest the paradox of wanting more than what is possible in a relationship, while also fearing the intensity and vulnerability that comes with it.
