I Might Be Wrong
Thom Yorke Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

i might be wrong
i might be wrong
i might be wrong
i could have sworn
i saw a light coming on

i used to think
i used to think
there is no future left at all
i used to think

open up, begin again
let's go down the waterfall
think about the good times
never look back
never look back
what would i do?
what would i do?
if i did not have you..

open up and let me in
let's go down the waterfall
have ourselves a good time
it's nothing at all

nothing at all
nothing at all

Overall Meaning

Thom Yorke's "I Might Be Wrong" conveys a mix of reflection, uncertainty, and hope. The repetition of "I might be wrong" suggests a recognition of one's fallibility and doubts about one's previous judgments. The second line, "I could have sworn / I saw a light coming on", seems to express a conflicting feeling of newfound optimism. The song then moves into a contrast between a pessimistic outlook on the future ("there is no future left at all") and a call to "open up, begin again" and live in the present. The lyrics suggest that the way forward is to let go of past regrets ("never look back") and focus on the positive moments in life ("think about the good times"). The final lines express gratitude for the presence of someone else in the singer's life, who provides comfort and support even in moments of uncertainty.

Overall, the song appears to be about the struggle to reconcile conflicting emotions and come to terms with one's limitations while still finding reasons to keep going. Yorke's voice, which often switches between a soft, tender croon and a more intense howl, adds to the emotional weight of the lyrics. The instrumentation is relatively spare, with a simple guitar riff, a steady drumbeat, and occasional atmospheric sounds adding texture.

In a magazine, fans were asked to interpret the lyrics, and Thom himself rated their interpretations. This one was rated 11/10 by Thom. "The song is about the merging of life and death and getting past your mistakes. Yorke questions what comes in the afterlife. The waterfall represents moving on to the next world, and when he sees the light he thinks he may have seen death. but then he realizes there is a future and that he wants to live life to the fullest."

Such a cool idea. Today we have the repetitive "read tweets" and "read what people search..." boring ass segments.
