Rade, Rade, belo Rade
Shtо se, janum, tuy valnuvash
Bavno odish, salzi ronish

Rade, Rade, white Rade
Why, honey, you're so thrilling
You're walking slow, you're shedding tears

Overall Meaning

These lyrics in Thomas Bergersen's song Rada represent a reflection of the emotions and thoughts of the singer as they observe and contemplate the actions and demeanor of a person named Rada. The first line establishes that Rada is a white person, possibly from the Balkan regions where the song is inspired from. The repeated use of 'Rade' gives a sense of familiarity and endearment, indicating that the singer might know Rada well. The second line is directed at Rada, asking why she is so exciting or what is making her so nervous or anxious. The use of the word 'valnuvash' in Bulgarian translates to 'thrilling' and the question could be interpreted either with concern or admiration.

The third line gives an insight into Rada's emotional state, she is walking slowly and shedding tears. The use of present tense verbs 'odish' and 'ronish' give a sense of immediacy and the singer is possibly watching her in real-time. The lines could be interpreted as Rada being sad and emotional, or she could be reflecting on something from her past. Regardless, the lyrics convey a sense of empathy and observation from the singer's point of view towards Rada.

If anyone is wondering about the lyrics - here they are: "Раде, Раде, бело Раде, що си чакала тъй да да рониш сълзи, рониш..." - which is in Bulgarian and can be translated: "Rada, Rada, white Rada, why have you been waiting, only to shred tears, to cry" I don't know what is the story behind the song but we (Bulgarians) have a novel "Under the Yoke" depicting events during the Ottoman yoke which is war time. One of the characters is named Rada (a popular female name).

When I listen to Rada I always imagine the mighty bulgarian mountains, the history and all the people those mountains have seen. And I come to miss my Bulgaria even more <3

@sicsempertyrannisvi4107

It seems that the Bulgars had a large migration to the place they are now, similar to the Huns (Hungary)

@sleeper7271

@@sicsempertyrannisvi4107 Indeed. They created 2 empires that combined lasted for 500 years, spread christianity and cyrillic to the rest of the slavs

Not small achievements by the Bulgarians, for sure

@GirlSexyThe

This is how our folklore songs sound. This is what was and is still sang in Bulgaria. The voices, the songs... PROUD BULGARIAN! <3

@kamikazeshocki

+GirlSexyThe I doubt it has this epic melody.

@ShadowFlipsy

+kamikazeshocki indeed but when it was made it there was no Epic Music but it was made for those who were willing to fight against islam and ottoman empire
