We're Gonna Be Okay

We can just sit and talk it through
Like people do
We don't have to scream and shout
There's no win or lose
So Let's be cool
Like people do
We've been blinded by the light of the life we tried to make
Now we're buried under all of the love we couldn't save
But just know that
We're gonna be ok
I know I wasn't my best sometimes
I know I let you down
Like people do
You were trying to tell me what you wanted me to do
I'm Broken too
I'm Broken too
We've been blinded by the light of the life we tried to make
Now we're buried under all of the love we couldn't save
But just know that
We're gonna be ok
I always thought that we were singing the same song
Now I know that I had the words all wrong
We've been blinded by the light of the life we tried to make
Now we're buried under all of the love we couldn't save
But just know that
We're gonna be ok
We've been blinded by the light of the life we tried to make
Now we're buried under all of the love we couldn't save
But just know that
So just know that
We're gonna be ok
So just know that
We're gonna be ok
In "We're Gonna Be Okay" by the Thomas Nicholas Band, the opening lines set a tone of introspection and communication. The artist addresses a situation where conflict or emotional turmoil might typically stem from misunderstandings or frustrations. Rather than resorting to anger or destructive behaviors, the singer suggests that the duo could engage in an open dialogue, emphasizing the importance of calm and constructive communication. The repetition of the phrase "like people do" underscores a desire for maturity and healthy relational dynamics, positioning their communication as a choice rather than a default reaction to tension. This sentiment reflects the idea that resolving issues can be achieved through understanding and empathy, creating a foundation of mutual respect.
As the song progresses, it dives deeper into the complexities surrounding love and relationships. The lines reveal a sense of frustration and weight, describing how the individuals in the relationship have become "blinded by the light" of aspirations they have built together. This imagery suggests that their dreams and hopes might have led them astray, turning into obstacles rather than pathways to happiness. Assimilating the idea of being "buried under all of the love we couldn't save" indicates feelings of regret, implying that either unexpressed emotions or unfulfilled expectations have piled up, overwhelming their bond. However, amid this turmoil, the reassurance that "we're gonna be okay" serves as a comforting reminder that healing and reconciliation are possible, thus providing the listener with a glimmer of hope.
The refrain “I know I wasn't my best sometimes / I know I let you down” reveals vulnerability in the singer, acknowledging personal shortcomings within the relationship. Here, there's a humanization of the experience of falling short, as the singer admits to not meeting expectations consistently—an experience many can relate to. This admission of fault mirrors the earlier acknowledgment of shared feelings, especially in the line, “I'm broken too.” By expressing this sense of mutual brokenness, the singer fosters a stronger connection with their partner, as they both navigate their flaws and imperfections together. This creates a sense of solidarity, as they both are striving to better themselves while continuing to support each other.
Finally, the repetition of the chorus reiterates the larger theme of hope and reassurance. The struggle and complexities of their relationship are acknowledged; however, the declaration that “we're gonna be okay” becomes a mantra that provides the couple strength to persevere. This sentiment is further illustrated in the lines that reflect the realization of miscommunication: “I always thought that we were singing the same song / Now I know that I had the words all wrong.” This acknowledgment leaves space for personal growth and understanding in the relationship, reinforcing the notion that it’s through recognizing differences and misalignments that the couple can find common ground. In totality, the song encapsulates a journey of navigating relational challenges, highlighting the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience while steadily affirming belief in the power of love and acceptance.
