The Going Rate
Thornley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What's the going rate on heaven up above?
I feed on the plans that I've made up to now
What's the going rate on accountability?
What's the going rate on you vs. me?
I'm far from the walls and the trust that keep me here
How we're running out of time
Bent out of shape but I'm on the up & up
Pulled out my roots, yes I have
Wasted so much on everything but this
It's my fix, it's my fix, it's my fix
What's the going rate on making this thing right?
What's the going rate on staying out all night?
It's hard to believe in the things I trust the most
There's so many signs, how many ways
Can I deceive my yesterday
Bent out of shape but I'm on the up & up
Pulled out my roots, yes I have
Wasted so much on everything but this
It's my fix, it's my fix, it's my fix
Can you be bigger than this?
Can you be stronger than this?
We're counting on you
Everything's waiting on you
Everything's focused on you
To do what you should do
Bent out of shape but I'm on the up & up
Pulled out my roots, yes I have
Wasted so much on everything but this
It's my fix, it's my fix, it's my fix
The lyrics of Thornley’s song “The Going Rate” are introspective and thought-provoking. The opening lines pose questions about the cost of love and life, and heaven above, hinting at a search for value and meaning. The lyrics also acknowledge the need for accountability, asking about the going rate for personal responsibility. The second verse talks about being stuck in the mud and the difficulty in trusting oneself. The line “Bent out of shape but I’m on the up & up” suggests resilience despite struggles.
The chorus features the repetition of “It’s my fix” three times, perhaps referring to the need for fulfillment or a solution to personal struggles. The song expresses uncertainty and questioning throughout, with lines like “It’s hard to believe in the things I trust the most” and “There’s so many signs, how many ways can I deceive my yesterday?”
Thornley’s song can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but at its core, it seems to be about the search for purpose and value in life, the struggle to trust oneself and personal accountability, and the need for fulfillment.

Sadly most people only listen to mainstream garbage, never going outside of their little box. Therefore missing out on great stuff such as this band.
