Car Crash
Three Days Grace Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I came along for the ride
Went wicked with the clutch
Happened so fast and it hurt so much
You're a car crash
And I can't look away
I should have known by now
I'm still not afraid
I do it to myself
Knows what I never say
You're a car crash
And I can't look away

All I see is shattered glass and
Red lights passing
My life flashing!
Headed for the same disaster
Faster and faster and faster

I couldn't stop at the red light
Stop at the red light
I couldn't stop at the red light
You're a car crash
And I can't look away

I came along for the ride
Went wicked with the clutch
Happened so fast and it hurt so much
You're a car crash
And I can't look away

And all I see is shattered glass and
Red lights passing
My life flashing!
Headed for the same disaster
Faster and faster and faster

I couldn't stop at the red light
The red light
Stop at the red light
I couldn't stop at the red light
You're just like a car crash
And I can't look away
From the headlights
The red light
Stop at the red light
I couldn't stop at the red light
You're just like a car crash
And I can't look away! (Let's go for a ride!)

And all I see is shattered glass and
Red lights passing
(Let's go for a ride!)
Headed for the same disaster
Faster and faster and faster

I couldn't stop at the red light
The red light
Stop at the red light
I couldn't stop at the red light
You're just like a car crash
And I can't look away
From the headlights
The red light
Stop at the red light
I couldn't stop at the red light
You're just like a car crash

Like a car crash!
And I can't look away!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Three Days Grace's Car Crash tell the story of a person who realizes they are in a toxic relationship that is like a car crash. They try to leave, but they keep getting pulled back in by the excitement and danger of the relationship. The lyrics are full of references to car accidents and reckless driving, serving as a metaphor for the danger and destruction of the relationship.

The opening lines, "I came along for the ride, went wicked with the clutch," are a clear reference to driving a car, with "wicked" indicating the sense of excitement and danger the person feels. The chorus repeats the phrase "you're a car crash, and I can't look away," emphasizing the power the other person has over them and the way it's like watching a train wreck.

The middle of the song is filled with a sense of chaos and disaster, with shattered glass and red lights passing by as the person realizes they are headed for the same disaster. They can't stop at the red light, a clear sign of danger, just like they can't escape the relationship even though they know it's bad for them. The song ends with the repeated phrase "like a car crash, and I can't look away," emphasizing the person's inability to break free from the cycle.

Overall, the lyrics of Car Crash are a powerful metaphor for the pain and danger of a toxic relationship, where the person knows they should leave but is unable to resist the excitement and danger of staying.

I love how this song slowly builds up tension until it just goes crazy, just like a car crash. Probably the best song on the album because it uses the repetitive lyrics to its full advantage, which is most definitely not a bad thing.

@azjayden

@YouDontWannaFightMe

Just listened to it. It's a pretty wicked track.

@emanuelangelone4036

YouDontWannaFightMe the repetitive lyrics are ok up till a certain point... I like the build up, I agree to the most, but it became monotonous... I've been trying to listen to their songs in a objective and not subjective way, and I may be failing...  but I think matt did a better job in mdd :/ until now fallen angel and painkiller have been the best songs that tdg made since adam left. I don't prefer the rest because they all have seem to be lacking in something. It my just need some getting used to though :) if I listen to them enough times I might hear the good in these songs :) these are my opinions, i'm not trying to be negative :)
