Wicked Game
Three Days Grace Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I knew somebody like you

No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
With you

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and

No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
With you

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do

No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love
No, I don't want to fall in love

No, I don't want to fall in love
With you

Overall Meaning

The first two lines of Three Days Grace’s song “Wicked Game” set the stage for a world that is literally and metaphorically burning. The singer finds himself drawn to someone who has the power to save him, but at the same time, he doesn’t want to fall in love with them. He recognizes that desire has the potential to make people do foolish things, and he’s afraid of losing control. This fear is reinforced by the repeated refrain of “No, I don’t want to fall in love with you.”

The chorus of the song reveals the singer’s internal conflict. He feels as though he’s being played, seduced by someone who has no intention of reciprocating his feelings. The dreams he has about this person are an escape from reality, but they also leave him feeling confused and vulnerable. The repetition of the phrase “What a wicked thing to do” emphasizes the singer’s sense of betrayal and powerlessness. The song circles back to its opening lines, with the world still burning and the singer still conflicted about the person he’s drawn to. Ultimately, he knows that desire can be dangerous, but he can’t help falling under its spell.

Well I went to high school with Adam and Wild at Heart was one of my favourite films when I was 16 I used to quote it regularly so this is very special to me to hear Adam cover this song because I would also hear him play guitar and sing in the hallway most everyday at school when I was 16 also.
