The band released a self-titled effort in 1996 following their formation, where Ament and Robb, who met together on a tour where both their main bands played, collaborated on this side project, which combines rock music with mystical-style Eastern music.
The band reformed in 1999 and toured throughout the year in support of their second album, The Quiet Table.

Your sleepy voice calls
Every one of my shortages
Of good days
Transporting
Time it's so ample
And it's passing so sweet
You bring the deepest things out of me
As amazing space
Transporting
Me to you
In Three Fish's song "Transporting", the lyrics seem to be speaking to someone who is far away and how their voice on the phone transports the singer to a different time and space. The opening line "And through this wire" could be interpreted as the physical distance between the two people and how the only connection they have is through technology. The line "Your sleepy voice calls" seems to suggest that this person is either in a different time zone or has been staying up late to talk to the singer.
The repetition of the word "transporting" in the chorus highlights the idea that the phone call is more than just a conversation; it's a way for the singer to escape their daily struggles and enter into a different mental and emotional space. The line "Every one of my shortages of good days" reveals that the singer hasn't been having the best time lately, but when they talk to this person, it brings them happiness and excitement. They feel like they can be their true selves and share their deepest thoughts and emotions with this person, as reflected in the line "You bring the deepest things out of me."
The final lines "Outside as amazing space / Transporting me to you" suggest that talking on the phone allows the singer to forget about their physical surroundings and enter into a mental space where they imagine being closer to the other person. Overall, "Transporting" is a song about the power of connection, whether it be through technology or conversation, and how it can bring people together despite physical distance.
